Offroad Trailblazers and Envoys

Quick question folks.

Trailblazer and Envoy related, but not off-road related...

by tarsh » Sat Feb 22, 2014 5:39 pm

I was thinking about pulling the evaporation canister out. Would it throw codes ? Run funny? I need to replace the cross member back there. I guess what I'm really asking is can I run without it?

You will throw a code, it should not run any different then it does with the Evap canister.

Cool. When I wrecked it while back it bent the back frame and tweaked that cross member bad. The one running at a 45 that holds up that canister

you'll also smell fuel, if it's garaged the garage will smell of fuel. It'll be roughly like the old cars.

why not just fix it?

It's an EPA required item. Surely you're not saying it's too expensive to fix up right. :coffee:

depending on your state, you might not pass your state inspection.
Mine failed here in NC because of that.

If you could see half the cars on the road in Michigan, it would be obvious they don't inspect vehicles lol

You'd probably also get a fuel cap loose dummy light because I believe that is all based on holding pressure in the fuel tank. If its working ok now, why not just put it back once you replace your frame?

Almost 25 years here, was never on my "States I admire" list. But there are few pluses

There is no emissions test, vehicle inspections, nothing... if you can afford a $75-$150 sticker for it every year you can drive it.
Camper "conversion" van I used see every summer driving around was literally an old ford van with everything behind the front seats cut off and a pick up bed camper ratchet strapped to the frame. Plus the required duct tape for sealing purposes

We are basically a cold, northern, Florida. :poke:

On topic: It may throw a code, but that's about it. If you don't like the light buy or find someone with HPTuner software

I'd rather pay that $75-$150(I actually pay $120) than have to go through those emissions test and vehicle inspection.

they ding us about $15 for a safety inspection (brakes, lights, tires, tie rods, ball joints etc) and about $15 more for an emissions inspection. Vehicles older than 1996 only get a safety inspection. One exception to that is "fuel cell" vehicles do not need emission checks, only safety checks. For some reason my suburban that is Flex Fuel/E85 is a "fuel cell" vehicle and didn't need an emissions check.

I'd rather pay the $30 and know that "most" of the cars on the road have had a safety check in the last year when my family meets them head on.

I figured the inspections were just cheaper, they just seem like a waist of time IMHO

Seriously why would you even try this? You can pick up a 4WD Blazer for around $2000. You certainly can't do the conversion for cheaper than that!

Maybe its part of a solid axle swap. If you already own the 2wd truck, you're not paying taxes on another vehicle. And if anything, a 2WD truck has less stuff up front to cut off for the swap.
