What differential is this? So confused.....

This is interesting to me personally. I had a suspicion the Saab had the same axle as the SS.

They do not except for the Aero.

Would also be nice to get some side pictures of the carrier with some measurements from the drive shaft side to back cover, side to side. Maybe we could convince Erik or Kyle to craw under there TB and take some measurement. Because if this information is in fact true that Saab 4.2l had a 8.6 axle that open's up bunch of options because I have seen a lot of then. Razor what motor did the VIN say it had?

I thought my build thread mentioned the difference in measurements from my need for shortened driveshaft, but once it is warm I can measure whatever.

I think most folks looking for an 8.6 want an open carrier so they can slap a no-slip in there. That is what I would have preferred.

I looked back at my receipts, emails and paperwork and there is no mention of what it came out of. It think the guy just mentioned it on the phone that it was out of a Bravada.

I just did a Car-Part search and they have a lot of the Saabs listed as options for a 5.3 TB.
Keep in mind that Kyle and Eric have the 9.5 not the 8.6. The 9.5 from the SS also came with a limited slip from what I understand. If I recall Kyle had to source an open carrier so he could swap in his locker.

Regulator is running one of the 9.5 too. The G86 did well for Eric and Matt this weekend. I feel better with the open carrier and lunchbox, but the SS ls seems to be pretty good.

Here's the RPO sticker off that Saab

Got it from a local salvage yard here in Modesto, CA. Best part is his inventory guy misread it as G80 so he had no idea it was a G86.
A little mistake like that just opened up a whole can of worms here

I see ZQ8 on there...I know on my s-10 that was the code for the same suspension the extreme had. Lowered like 2" from factory. Wonder why its on there too? Did they change the codes to mean different things? Or did the Saab also come with a ZQ8 option?

Best I can tell, ZQ8 is the generic Chevy sports suspension package. Looks like its just an upgraded rear sway bar.

Upon further reading, it seems to also include a 1" drop on the trailblazer. The SS has it too.

Yeah I wanted the GT4, it's a rare find for the 4.10....for a guy with the GU6 I'm totally content with a G86/GT4

Just an update...

Got the axle rebuilt, changed bearings, seals, brake plates, parking brake hardware, cleaned and inspected diff carrier, cleaned housing, sanded and painted axle, and swapped axles.

Was a perfect fit and runs flawlessly

I neglected the diff cover though, PML makes a cover for this differential on the GMT360. So I'll be ordering that next overtime paycheck

Also all of us here at this station have white 2007 chevys....thought that was hilarious.

Im really glad to Learn my 2005 97x ARC 5.3 V8 AWD has a GT4 G86 RPO code ! I still want the 4.10 though...

I plan on lifting my 97x and it apparently shares the same drivetrain and RPO part #s... So...until then Ill be the ugly duckling for now. Unless of course you can point out a better site for a 97x that has TB parts from various proven daily drivers.

From reading this, can I assume that G86 simly is the code for limited slip?
Clearly it's not the "same" as the SS axle as it's a 8.6" instead of the 9.5". (10 bolts instead of 14) Both being GM limited slip G86 I would think the function to be the same, just smaller. I do beleive the Aero is basically an SS including the rear axle, engine, and trans upgrades. Recently, someone told me recently that all Envoy Denali came with V8's and 8.6 axles. Can anyone confirm this?
