Oh, One productive thing I did accomplish today was opening the old front diff to try and see what happened. here's my discovery...
Aside from the MIA outer bearing race and the 10 inch long crack... the case appeared to be the only damaged part.
The spider gears, ring gear, and pinion gear looked awesome! I was kinda dumbfounded....
But then I saw this......
So what I'm thinkin is the pinion bearing was going out, coupled with the water intrusion and lack of gear oil is finally what pushed the case apart. The crack, clearly, goes all the way through the metal. Thoughts? Or is that what fish was talking about with "pinion walk"?
