Mine still didn't come on again today on the drive in to work, however I'm wondering if the warnings are speed-sensitive? The drive in today was stop&go, so I didn't even make it up to 55mph. I do still have different gears in the front and rear diffs, but this doesn't seem to be causing any problems.

There won't be a problem unless you select 4wd. The front end is disconnected until then.

As for the ABS: Like Kyle said, "Tape over the light".

Errr... that's what I'm saying... My ABS light hasn't come on again in the last couple days. I think it only happens for the first bit of driving and then it settles down.

JamesDowning wrote:Mike, the issue is that 2006+ don't need to know the gear ratio, since all 4 speed sensors are on the hubs. On the 2005-, the computer has to know the ratio of spins between the output vss on the transfer case and the front hubs. Otherwise it gets the impression that your front and rear tires are traveling at different speeds. I believe that is the root of the abs light issue.

James thanks for posting this info. I have been following this with great interest and was planning at some point of rear gearing and was rethinking it because of the issues here. But now I am good since I have a 08 TB. The few ext rears end near me for 325 - 400 on car-parts.com are looking pretty good. Assuming they are marked right.

SO MUCH FOR THAT... Was going down the highway today, and my ABS warning came on again. Sure wish I could find someone who could reprogram this stupid thing to the new gears.

Found this customizable tool for fixing said problem. Many uses, actually. It's what i'm going to resort to.

What happens when you actually need the ABS?

I think to get your data you might need to loan some one tuner or meet up with them.

The other option might be to utilize something like dirty anton used for his speedo correction. You might be able to intercept the signal from the rear vss and speed it up or slow it down the proper amount. It would be tricky though to get right.

I'm holding out hope for a programming solution. I'm sure GM has a way to do this.

I know James02 here in NY has 4:10s. If you could scan his rig I'm sure you'd find what you need.

Hard to say if that's even remotely helpful since your location isn't filled out and we don't know where you're located. :poke:

Uhhh... that's odd, how did I miss that field? I'm in Northern Colorado (just North of Denver).

Haha my wife doesn't share the bed ;)

Probably not a good time to be here anyway. Not sure if you heard about all the flooding a couple weeks ago, but I'm right in the middle of where the worst of it was (and yet I lucked out and didn't have any damage here). The next town West of us is Lyons, which took the worst damage of all. I drove out there last night, and you can't even get into town without a permit. Chances are it will be next Summer before most of the bridges are repaired.

Got the alignment today. Could be worse, I suppose. They got it all in though.

Given that there are several gear ratios available stock there has to be some way of accomplishing the change and it should be available on the software side of things. Maybe it's just through our inexperience that we can't figure it out. Has any of you guys contacted any of the tuners to see if they can fix it?
Can we take it to GM and get the proper program dropped on?
I guess it's possible they used a different reluctor on the VSS to accomplish the gear change reading, but that wouldn't make much sense from GMs perspective when they could just tweak the software to get the pulses from the VSS to equal the gear change. A software change would be so much cheaper for the manufacturer.
I know it's not the cheapest solution, free is obviously ideal, but it "should" be straight forward to update the gear ratio. I don't think I've seen a GM platform yet that wasn't able to be rewritten for the correct gear ratio.

I'm with Jason. I don't think HPTunners is going to do it. And I doubt PCMforLess is going to be able to based on how cheap their tunes are. Most of the vehicles I've had tuned including the G8 where up to 500$. I think someone with EFILive or another actual tuner is going to have to go in there, and that's going to be more than a flash program with a few tables changed. Most of the dyno tuners can change more perimeters than the handle held units.

I'm not so much worried about my speedo personally, as for my safety with the ABS when I do a 4.56 swap.

2002-2003 models seem to share a lot in common as far as lack of annoying systems. I have this feeling that since I didn't have any problems with a 2002, that you won't with a 2003.
I own too many vehicles now. Let's leave it at that.

So I have to ask, everyone gave me a hard time about how my route for removing the front diff took to much work, but this was a better option? I did mine by myself in less then 3 hours! That just seems like it was a lot of excess work. Did you use a lift as well?
