So again I ask, a bit more to the point, are you a LEO or are you just pretending in hopes of getting some extra privileges?

I don't mean to sound like a dick, but I can't stand it to see someone running this plate / decal when it does not apply to them.
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do.

Can't openly say yes or no Josh? Is it because you're still trying to get into a department?

He's afraid I'll call him a jack booted thug.

Josh, I'll never accuse you of that. I barely know you, but of what I do know of you, I know you'll never be a jack booted thug.

Where?

Are you an officer of the law? A member of the law enforcement community?

I know if people are not and have representation as you do, my buddy in Chicago that is a gang cop, takes it personally and those people regret it. Some pretty funny storied he has.

It really is a simple thing to answer...esp here among friends. The secret stuff if what makes it fishy. Makes me think of my 2 year old hiding her face after getting caught in the fridge...

You know Kyle, why do you gotta push shit? I think from TECORE 7 you'd know I'm not a police officer but that is my goal. Why didn't you call me out on it on TECORE 7? That plate was BLATANT throughout that entire weekend.

I don't want attention. I just want to go to a place to chat about our trucks, NOT "prove myself" and my reasons for having a SYMBOLIC plate on MY truck.

Here is what I sent to regulator:

"I have been a police explorer for close to 5 years. I have my application pending with several agencies - mostly in Virginia, but in Maryland as well.

Although many think the plate gets you out of shit, that doesn't necessarily apply here...nor anywhere for that matter (as proven by my most recent traffic citation). The plate is there for the symbolism/meaning of the Thin Blue Line - I count it as the same thing as if I were to throw a Kenworth plate on the front of my truck.

Posers and douche bags buy the plate for getting out of tickets - when you ask them about it they answer accordingly.

I hope that clears things up...."

Now please, leave me alone. I'm done with this topic and anything else that has to do with it. I am who I am, I represent who I do. I don't need anymore shit about it.

Plus we're friends on Facebook. The answers to your questions and more are easily available for you to look at; anything from my employment history...education...internships...hell even the departments I applied to. There was no need to blow me up like this and put me in a position where I had to answer to you and the others publicly.

Thanks for clearing it up. That was not so hard was it. Best of luck in your chosen career. Hopefully you get a positive response to one of your applications!

I do wonder what meaning it has for you. I see it as...I am an officer and part of the brotherhood of the line. I would think displaying it without bring a part would equate to non-marines having semper fi displayed. However I know some people do it as a sign of support.

Why not answer publicly? Nothing to be ashamed of. If you are proud and want a large plate displayed on your truck in general public, you should be able to explain it when asked.

You two, whip em out, get it over with.

Seriously, calm down. No need to instigate, and no need to get worked up over nothing.

The fact that you got so worked up certainly implies that you understand the questionable decision that you've made... but if you are so set in your decision, then you shouldn't have problems supporting that here, among friends.

Let's get this thread back to what its here for...

Since this turned into a huge shit storm that I started, and Josh posted his PM to me then I will post my reply. It provides a bit of an explanation as to why I asked in the first place.

I am not trying to be a dick, it just comes out naturally when I am drinking. That said, I see this decal on so many vehicles now that it seems everyone is running the thin blue line in the hopes they will get some sort of advantage. It completely cheapens the meaning behind it and removes the prestige of someone that has put in the time, energy, blood, sweat, and tears to earn the badge.

This is all coming from someone who is prior service Army with 3 combat tours, Prior Federal Air Marshal, licensed armed security officer in Washington DC and Virginia, and now a Bail Bondsman and Recovery Agent. I have spent a lot of time in the past 20 years around law enforcement and have the highest amount of respect for them.

While it doesn't "get you out of shit" it still provides an image to people that is false. For years this badge was a subtle way to recognize a LEO, recently in the last few years it has been discovered (best description I can think of) by the average Joe Public and there has been a huge rush to try and use it as a free pass, Similar to the FOP badging years ago.

I can appreciate you saying that it is there for symbolic reasons, however I still feel that it should be a badge that should only be worn by LEO's. It should go hand in hand with the shield!

It is not just this, but I am this way about many symbols of service. For instance, I take huge disrespect to see some ragged looking kid out at the mall wearing a BDU/ACU military top when it still has the patches on it. Sadly these are readily available at any surplus shop, but I still consider it a slap in the face. I busted my ass to earn the right to wear them. I have been known to walk up and ask were they served, obviously knowing the answer, and let them know exactly how I feel.

I hope that makes sense as to where I am coming from.

Of course there is the possibility of the fact that I had been drinking and am still a little bitter that I have to deal with shitty broken down parts that I am getting off of your last truck is playing a bit of a role in all this as well. :raspberry:

Wow. Somebody came along with a big ass lighter and lit a whole bunch of tampon fuses in here.

In other semi-related news: The Lynskey/Lynch/O'Loinsigh family motto (from back in Ireland) is Semper Fidelis, however I'm not a Marine. I once considered a tattoo of said family motto but decided against it due to possible shitstorms that would develop.
