Clueless. Shopping for husbands birthday :) HELP?? LIFT KIT

OK, my husband has a 2005 Trailblazer 4.2 4wd

He's talked about wanting to lift it for some time now but wont invest the money because he THINKS I will be upset with him. So, benefiting from nice tax returns this year, I am doing it for him as a suprise. well..ordering the stuff at least lol.

Bear with me, I don't know much of anything about these trucks or any lift kits. Im basing everything on what i've heard him say.

I know he wants MarkMC's 3" kit
And the 1.5" wheel spacers (this is a lot easier when he's saved a bunch of stuff to the favorites bar lol)

now comes shocks?

I briefly read through some pages on here but I am absolutely clueless as to what you guys are talking about (hd,86, 89?) who knows.

And i'll be quite honest i dont have the time to become familiar with forums and lingo and all that :/

Can any of you give me advice on what to get for the front and the rear? that will work best with the 3" kit?

we'll be moving to colorado in the near future so trail riding is the majority of what it will be used for. but having the capability for other things is nice too. He doesnt need a monster truck though, our daughter still has to get in and out of this thing

Other guys will probably be able to tell you better than I can, on the tires. No spacers here yet. But that brings me to my main point. Does he want spacers or adaptors. Important difference. Spacers just move the wheels out. Adaptors do the same thing, but allow you to change the lug size for different wheels.

based on that info, spacers. I know this because he just bought a full size spare thats the exact type of rim thats on the truck. So I would emagine he wouldnt go buying one if he didnt plan on keeping the wheels

Yes, they are the correct length for a 3" lift. MAKE SURE you get the 10" travel ones in the rear with 255/70 valving. There are 8 or so choices on the Low Range site, this one is in the middle. (7th one down to be exact)


As far as spacers vs adapters, is he planning on buying new wheels or just replacing tires?

There is a Tire/Lift chart here viewtopic.php?f=14&t=2290 I'd suggest Treadwright Gaurd Dogs or General Grabber At2. I've heard so so reviews on the Authority.

The Authority reviewed terribly on Pirate4x4 and other places. Rapid tread deterioration. I would step up to the Wrangler Duratrac. They are not much more and a proven to perform very well for the money.

I like the BFG all terrains but its a daily driver so that may be a little much i guess? and of course my decision is based on the looks haha. Thats good to know though about the authorities, because we will be driving round trip (WI to CO then back) in May and its 2,000 miles total, no sense in wasting tread like that..

BFG AT's are good tires, but they wear fairly quick imo. Least quicker than I would like. Traction on them when new is really good though, so if your going to be spending alot of time in the hills, they would work.

But then I plan to run MT's eventually. So I put new AT's from BFG on for now, I'll learn eventually...

I'm running the Grabbers which some say that they are like the BFG All Terrian but better(especially on the wallet ha ha). I love em! They do me well on the highway and everything I've put them through. I've heard good reviwes on the Duratracs too.

I had a set of Firestone Destination A/T and I was very impressed with them. The price was lower and I got great mileage out of them with minimal road noise.

My wife was a BFG fan as well. I just put on a set if the Goodyear wrangler Duratracs and she is impressed with the looks. And basically the same price.

I can't add anything to the above suggestions expect; What's your location? Nearby members have been known to travel pretty good distances to lend a hand and a wrench to help new members get lifts installed and become familiar with working on their trucks. The normal etiquette is, the host provides the beer and food and everyone else donates the time and experience and brings along any special tools that may be required for the job at hand.

Only if their mission justifies them. You don't need skids to drive down dirt roads back to your hunting spot or to take your kayak back to the lake.


By the Way 2005TB; what does your husband and you plan on having a lifted trailblazer for?

We live in Wisconsin at the moment, but are in the middle of planning a move to Colorado.

We want to have the ability to do trail rides basically. leave for a weekend or more just out in the mountains or something and camping out. We love the outdoors so being able to go to basically anywhere (within reason) is nice. We dont need a daily driver rock crawler but we also dont want to get stuck on a pebble
