The 17" vs 16" wheel post got me thinking...
My brakes are fine now, but have been through one "pad cycle." My personal rule is that I'll swap just pads only once, and the next time around do calipers/rotors. Call me superstitious.
Since my next change will involve all brake hardware, and I'm married to 17" wheels anyway, I'm wondering if LWB brakes are a simple replace mounting bracket/calipers/rotors job, or if the hub assemblies are different altogether.
Rationale: Bigger wheels/tires are harder to stop, why not get a little boost?
Do LWB/V8 brakes bolt onto SWB hub assemblies?

Have you checked at say Compnine to see whether they're the same size or not? Good idea and could be true.

There was some talk about it some time ago on the OS... IIRC, rotors and caliper mounting brackets are different... Calipers and pads are the same... Everything else should be the same, so it should just require getting the V8/EXT rotors and caliper mounting brackets, then whatever pads you want... Also IIRC, nobody's done it yet, though...

As was said, the caliper brackets and rotors are different. The caliper brackets are around $60 each from parts4chevys.com. I haven't done it yet, but U have the part numbers somewhere. I'll find them and post them here.
eta: barton, I spoke to someone on the OS who had done it recently, and said it was an easy bolt on. Again, I haven't done it myself yet.

The part numbers are: Right 88964429 and left 88964427

This is a mod that I did back on my old Mitsubishi Eclipse. (the AWD model had larger rotors and 2-piston calipers as opposed to the single-piston ones on the FWD one) If it works on our vehicles, it will be a relatively inexpensive big brake upgrade. Good thinking, guys!

I have an ext so let me know if u guys need me to check something or take a pic. I think the real advantage would be to find out of the front brakes from the ss can fit on our trucks.

IIRC the SS brakes require 18" wheels....which is undesirable for wheeling. I could be wrong.

IIRC, the spare tire on my 06 SS was 17". If the SS had sucked in the snow, I was going to swap wheel and tires from my '02, but it didn't, so I didn't.
Again, I could be wrong, but as I recall, the biggest diference between SS and non-SS brakes is the pad material. They may already have the EXT/XL rotors.

Ya I heard the ss spare was 17" as well, that when I started wondering if the swap would work. Getting the ss brakes on our trucks would be a huge difference in braking.
