Screw all you guys and your "finished" wheels! The rust on my truck wheels gives me more traction against rocks and tree stumps!

BOOM! What now?! :finger:

Eh... They actually did too well off road, to the point that it wasn't fun any more; so I had to take the loose stuff off and spray some "rust reformer" on them...

the rim doesn't matter to me, for some trucks chrome looks good, for others black looks good.
I figure out here at the beach aluminum is likely best but I imagine the steel/chrome would be fine as long as you keep them clean/polished. To me it is whatever looks good on the truck.

I can understand a jeeper buying soft 8's though, why spend $1500 on a set of rims to go on a $1200 jeep?
Something as nice as we drive I can see keeping a nice rim.
My factory rims aggravate me because tire guys like to put weights on the outside.
My next set of rims I'll make sure to tell them to put the weights on the inside.

Buying wheels...It comes down to aesthetics unless you go steel.

Painting is aesthetic period. Not a fan but some are.

They gave you all new wheels for your 3 year old wheels?? That's actually pretty impressive. Were the old ones that bad? I never really noticed.
HARDTRAILZ wrote:Steel are repairable more easily but I wanted the weight savings of aluminum. How is a black alum wheel more easily repairable than chrome aluminum?

I think the point was that black wheels can be cleaned up with black spray paint if you want to. Chrome can't be repaired like that.
HARDTRAILZ wrote:Painted black wheels make everyone think you were too cheap to buy good wheels.

It's true! I am too cheap! Painting the factory wheels cost like $10 and 5 nights (dang, plus a 5th factory spare was like $120). At least they are good factory-quality alloy wheels though!

I'm an off-road ricer!!! Oh the shame! :pale:

Not to beat this to death but...

Painted black wheels make everyone think you were too cheap to buy good wheels. Makes people think ...where else did you cut corners...cheap straps, crappy lift, will he make it cutting corners to save a few dollars on decent wheels? I dont dislike all black wheels but painted black wheels invoke images of offroad ricer to me.

Or they saved that money for recovery gear or something with a mechanical benefit. Ricers = looks. Chrome = looks. You hang out with too many dainty Jeep guys who are afraid of body damage. :poke:

Not cheaper...
Neither aluminum is more easy to repair.
I don't like the look of black..some do but I do not see any reason besides aesthetics that one is better.

Once the aluminum is repaired, you'll need to have those rechromed unless you want a big old splotch of bare metal. A black wheel gets a shot of paint. Cheaper. "Well I don't care if one of my wheels is missing a big patch of chrome and looks like hell." Then why buy them in the first place?

The warranty issue makes everything make a little more sense. And yes, it's all about appearance, which matters zero. But you were the one who came out swinging in this and every post I've seen you make about wheels. Why the hate?

They did. It was the rust on the supposedly powdercoated alum that finally got them to do it. That and a couple negative threads with pics they picked up on.

Guy said the finish was bad and that's why they don't make em anymore. Sucks because the look was perfect for me.

Black or chrome can be spray painted black. Either one can be fixed the same.

Ricer may be harsh but for a forum about function over looks it is a worthless mod. But lots of mods are that way. Me swapping interior leds last night was just as worthless. We all do what we like. I just think the chhrome wont get you home thing is ignorant when it comes to wheels. My chrome took me farther and home many more times than most murdered out wheels on here.

If I got the chrome wheel fixed...shot of paint can make them black too. At least I got the nice clean chrome look for awhile.

The hate is the fact that too many people just diss chrome when it is just as fuctional.

The hate is that xj guys stay stock but paint their wheels cause they are "offroaders."

The hate is that black and chrome are aesthetics that make no difference. I could run chrome spinners and be twice as capable but still hear the chrome home bs.

The hate is just that...hate. I hate black wheels.

Only ricers use round wheels.

Square is where it's at.
