Pro COmp 6032 and 315/70/17 Guard Dogs

Need new shoes? This is the place to discuss.

by HARDTRAILZ » Thu Feb 23, 2012 10:29 pm

Finally got some good 35's to run and some new rims to replace my ones with some issues.

The new set-up is a set of 315-70-17 TreadWright Guard Dogs. Basically the old MTR tread on a BFG AT Carcass. These carcasses have the 3 ply sidewall. The unmounted height is right at 35 inches. The weight was about 76 lbs a piece. Actual tread measures about 11 inches wide. Which is interesting since the previous 305's were wider, but 315 and 11 inches seems to be standard.

The wheel are the Pro Comp 6032 in the new HD Chrome. There are a bit over 20 lbs and the size is 17x9. I like that the plastic center caps are bolt on. These wheels are light and the finish really is incredible. I think black rims look like cheap ghetto crap, so I knew with the discontinuation of the Knight Chrome I had to go with full chrome. My chrome wheels always get me home and dont look like spares doing it.

The combo gained me about 1.5 inches of ground clearance. The tires being a bit skinnier makes the truck seem taller and narrower, not a bad thing. The wheelwells are filled out better, but may have additional rubbing, although I doubt it is anything of consequence. My rear extended control arms do not appear to center the tires in the wells. Looks like an extention of more than 1/2 inch would be more appropriate, but Fishsticks said his 1 inch was too much.

I only drove around the neighborhood, under 30 mph, and these tires make more noise than the worn pro comp xtreme mt did. They do feel solid and smooth. Truck feels taller, but is very planted and not unstable feeling. Time will tell.

But what people want to see....pictures....

I didn't want being as much as I didn't want the ghetto black spray bomb look. They don't make the black chrome or white aluminum and the two tones didn't strike me except one they didn't have in the right pattern.

I do really like some of the two tone black and chrome but straight black...not for me

I'm not really a chrome guy (the black chrome looks hot, though!), but those wheels look good, and I've gotta say, when the Cruze is cleaned up, I really do like those chrome wheels! Just kind of depends on how chrome is done, to me...

I do like the cruze cleaned up and shiny.

I like the chrome wheels but don't want chrome handles or mirrors...hell painted mirrors are waste to me.

Black or chrome its all in how you use them. My black chrome are thrashed to point if likely un-sellable. Just cause its shiny does not mean it wont work.

True, The chrome won't get you home saying I think was brought about because people would buy chrome everything and not have any money left for functional offroad mods. I've seen the most jacked up chromed out badass looking truck before then look close and see the lack of 4wd, a winch or anywhere to store recovery gear, a giant shiny anchor or most likely a show pony with not so much as a grain of dirt stuck in the tire tread.... I don't think anyone will confuse you with that sort. Can't wait to see some muddy chrome!

Same thing with "black wont get you back". Painting shit and wheels black...removing factory chrome. None of that helps your Offroad functionality. Makes me laugh that web wheelers are scared of chrome.

Half the time the black spray is used to cover rust or other issues that really should be addressed not hidden.

Black spray paint does a nice job of covering the gouges I've made in my wheels from using them. Also works well for my sliders, armor, frame and suspension. Are you going to use chrome spraypaint?

Seriously, they look nice on your truck but you'd get laughed off the trail out here.

No need to hate on black wheels. We know why we have them even if you don't. 8-)

I don't hide the gouges. They are like scars and I am proud of them. My other wheels prove that.

I use the paint on the sliders n armor n frame...no need for chrome paint on these.

Why do you have them? What do they offer that chrome does not? Please explain.

A wheel is a wheel, is a wheel, regardless of its finish. Some like the look of chrome, some like black, some like silver, who cares! Run what you like. I don't knock chrome. I don't knock black. I don't knock silver.

Cheap, easily repairable, no chrome to flake off.

All people are going to think when you show up with gouged chrome wheels is "Why would he buy those rims if he's going to wheel?"

A year ago you were trashing Pro Comp wheels as shit because the chrome flaked off. Now you bought another set?

Did not buy em. They warrantied them finally. I still am not a fan of pro comp wheels but will take chrome over black any day in any brand.

Most black rims cost as much as shiny unless you paint them. Then i see far more paint flaking than chrome. I know black procomps and may others have finishes that flake like chrome and either is just as easy to repaint if you want to hide something.

Steel are repairable more easily but I wanted the weight savings of aluminum. How is a black alum wheel more easily repairable than chrome aluminum?

Painted black wheels make everyone think you were too cheap to buy good wheels. Makes people think ...where else did you cut corners...cheap straps, crappy lift, will he make it cutting corners to save a few dollars on decent wheels? I dont dislike all black wheels but painted black wheels invoke images of offroad ricer to me.

I like the mix of chrome and black except for fake beadlocks. I actually wanted a mixed set but they didn't have them.

Not just for debate. I think its bullshit that people somehow think black does something better than chrome.

Not cheaper...
Neither aluminum is more easy to repair.
I don't like the look of black..some do but I do not see any reason besides aesthetics that one is better.
