These have been in R&D hell for years. IIRC, the main obstacles have been high-speed issues and the weight of the whole assembly. They currently use them on some forklifts and low-speed vehicles, but they're not in production for automobiles yet.

I've seen them on forklifts. But that's all.

that would be really cool if they started producing those for autos, I expect they would work well offroad.

only downside is they can't be aired down to give you a bigger footprint, what you have is all you get.

Or they could make the tread roll around the side so when they compress on a rock or something they get wider and less compression rate (softer)

I saw these for the first time a couple years back. Then they were seen in the road racing crowds.

Even if they work great, what happens offroad when those things start picking up mud, sticks, and debris.

I know some guys who run them on bobcats, they hate them and want real tires back.

I dont like the lack of flexibility. I like having choices when I air down. I usually leave the front tires at a slightly higher psi than the rear. Thats just me, though.

I went to a small engineering presentation on them once. It's really cool, but does have limitations.

If I recall correctly (it's been like 7 years now), one of the big hopes of the tweel was army use, because they could supposedly handle IEDs better. Supposedly they would deflect pressure away from the wheel better than an aired tire. Not sure if that ever came to fruition for Michelin though.

they could make inserts to make it stiffer and make some removable to make it softer and as for the rocks and mud they could always put a flexible cover over the holes
