front dif rebuilt due to lift

Something not working right?

by mk3smitty » Tue Jan 24, 2012 7:26 pm

So I spoke with the dealer today they could not give me a straight forward answer as to why my lift caused the problem all they said was that I had a bent axle on my drivers side and the gears were chewed up in my dif. This leads me to believe that my problem was me offroading to hard which I will never do agin. He also said that my front axle angel was one of the causes but I'm pulling the bullshit flag on that one. I thank the bent axel was from the mud and the gears were from me goin so hard on it while in 4x4 through the mud. The stiffness was from all the new grease in my steering and it sitting in the extreme cold up here that is fine now my 4x4 works great now I know now not to take it through mud and not to go so hard on it. If you have anymore input I would greatly take it into consideration

Thank you

So you had a ring and pinion failure?

Even with all the stupid stuff I've done in my TB, my ring and pinion have held up.

In fact, I've broken everything BUT my R&P/front carrier.

Could a bad axle angle cause seal failure in the diff, then low fluid caused gear damage?

or just a leaky diff led to the r&p failure.

No my R&P is fine it was just the thick grease they greased my hole front end with plus the cold weather made it stiffer then normal it is fine now that everything has broken in

On the splined disco side the axles wear on the bearings/seal. On the diff side it's better supported by the side gear.

Idk they didn't really have a lot of info for me he said it was not documented because it was a warrenty claim and they kept my lift a secret in the claim so the warranty company would cover it

I think they are calling the disconnect the diff. Is that possible?
