Guard Dogs 265/75/16 - 90% Tread
Firestone Destination LE 265/70/16 - 70 % Tread
BFG A/T 265/75/16 - 60% Tread

Either the BFG or guard dog. Can't go wrong with those. Bfgs handle great in snow and ice. From what I have seen, the guard dog are more of a super-aggressive a/t than a mud tire.

when i was researching the gaurd dogs the jeep guys were using them with no problems this past winter in the NE. A few guys posted pics of driving in a good 8" of snow or so and reported no problems.

My BFG ATs happily pulled me along through 2ft of wet snow until I packed so much of it under the frame that all 4 wheels were off the ground.

I expect my Guard Dogs will do the same this winter. The tread on them is a clone of the old school MT/Rs.

Let's just say that the BFG AT tires on the TB did as well or better than the snow tires on my car, so I got the Treadwright version in 33" for my truck...

Right now I am thinking I want to run howlers next summer. So I am thinking two sets of wheels and tires hopping to find another deal like the one I got for the h3 wheels. Saw a set of bfg at with wheels for 250 and am thinking about it

You have no idea how happy this thread makes me. Hoping to secure a set of rims from a buddy of mine tomorrow and could use some insight on a good set of "Vermont" tires... Snow, ice, unpaved roads, et al.

On a two foot snowstorm this year proformed amazingly as a work truck on unplowed streets. Next summer plans are locking the rear and going to 33s

Really? When we went up in November for our scouting trip we got a really good sense of Vermont. I cannot tell you how excited and nervous I am! There were a lot of roads that weren't paved. The local we talked to said it was easier for the city to plow the snow and mud that way. After driving around and around looking at things and walking around we realized that we would both be fine if we had the right tires. Manda has a FWD Toyota Corolla S and we figure with the right studded snow tires she would be fine and we should get chains for her for when the studs no longer cut it. As for me... I have been lurking this forum seeing what you guys that live in snow use.

Perhaps I could PM you or we could start another thread but I had dozens of questions about the multitude of trails up there! They seem to be part of a "community" or similar share program. Most seem to be restricted to either cross country skiing or snowmobiling. I braved one with the AWD Traverse we rented and wished like hell I had my truck! What are the rules for use and are there public access areas, trails, etc? I'll definitely let you know when I get up there.

The BFG M/T KM1 is good in deep snow, but so far they are TERRIBLE in the light snow, ice, and even wet roads. They are rated M&S but I am thinking about a set of BFG A/T for winter driving here in Utah. They have very little traction with just a light layer of snow on the ground. I have thought about siping the M/T but I don't want them to chunk worse than they already are come summer when I get into the rocky roads.

Hm, I've actually had somewhat favorable results with my KM1, but I have the DT version (Jeep OEM, and they say the slightly different tread has slightly better traction).

That is what I have as well. They were take-offs from a new Jeep Rubicon. Like I said deep snow they go great. Really anything deeper than 1" or so they do really well, but that light dusting layer on pavement, yikes!

Brandon, we had a light one inch snow one time when I lived near Raleigh, NC. We don't get much snow. It was a wreck. It was really fine snow and packed hard and was basically ice. I'd much rather run in several inches of slush.

Although I don't have experience with Treadwright or the BFGs you mention, I did run a brand new set of Destination ATs last winter which I purchased thinking they would be a better all season tire. Well, this year I'm now running my 2nd set of Blizzacks on my tb, and the 4th set since I've live in Michigan. For what its worth, in the spring I'll swap the ATs back to the stock rims for daily driving and am looking to buy a set of the Guard Dogs for the weekend work on seperate rims. I know that is 3 sets of tires for my daily driver and can be a considerable investment. But its just hard to beat a tire designed for the environment it is used in. But given your choice, I'd go with the LEs.

I hit a patch of ice in a parking lot a few weeks ago and slid 6ft or better and was going 5mph or less. I was pretty surprised.
