"Best" shock for use with Z-71 Springs...

BDS, ReadyLift, Smaxx... You name it, we know about it here.

I've been digging through the postings on rear shocks used in combo with Z-71 Springs. For a while, really until posts from this year it seems, BDS was the majority favorite. Then it appears they fell out of favor and I've seen some recent postings that suggest Skyjacker N8030 or Procomps may be the way to go. I've talked with the Dallas 4WheelParts guys, and they said both are good shocks, comparable in both quality and price.

As a guy who has only been in the TB game a month, and has everything left to do to my toy, it seems to me that suspension parts, as opposed to bumpers, armor, etc., are a 'disposable' asset. Basically, the ideal solution being don't spend and arm and a leg, try it, if it works for you, great. If not, find another solution, and give it a chance. For the guys who have been at it longer, is this a pretty accurate way of looking at it? For anyone who has tried these two shocks, any known pros/cons that seperate the two?

BDS 5500, Skyjacker, ProComp... all are "white body" shocks and are most likely made by Gabriel. Just buy whichever you can find cheapest. 4" lift rear for a fullsize is what you're looking for.

I don't have problems with my current gas BDS, and appreciate the early platform support with their lifts. Some folks have had leakage issues, but I would not claim there was a general "falling out of favor" because of that.

Actually, very glad to hear that. I really like what I've read regarding the BDS fit vs the others.

I suppose one of the inherent problems with the search feature is, depending on where you start/stop reading, you can draw erroneous conclusions.

I've been liking my bds/fox racing shocks. Seems to handle nicely loaded down or unloaded.
