Light Bar on roof is loud

Hey guys and gals.

I followed the how to on the "DIY Light Bar" to a tee. It is very loud when traveling 60km (Canadian) and over. Has anyone else had the problem with noise. Its like a whistling windy noise and very annoying. Any advise on how to quiet the noise down? Everything is tight

Yes I do. It looks great and I will take pics tonight and post them up tonight. But I would really like it to be less noisey. It wakes my 10 month old daughter up and drives the wife crazy, which then makes me crazy lol. I did drill a hole about 1/4" on top of the bar to run the wires through the bar, so maybe the noise is coming from there? I cant see it, but I guess you never no...

if you have some holes maybe fill them with silicone or something to seal them up. I think most have just used tie wraps and secured them to the outside of the bar.

Yea, it most likely could be that hole. I had a light bar on top for a while, have since taken it off but when I first made it (4 lights), there was no excess noise coming from it. Then a light went out, and instead of fixing it, I made it a 3 light bar, so I drilled new holes. Noise came from them till I plugged them. Then all was well again. So maybe put some silicone over the hole seal it better and see if you have any luck?

Go all out... remove one of the caps and shoot the tube with expanding foam... let it dry then shave off any excess from that hole and put the cap back on.

Ya thats the only thing I didnt follow. I hate wires and thats why I tried to hide them. I guess if no one else has the loud windy noise then it must be the little holes on top of the bar. I will try silicone and see if that helps. I hope it does, because I cant stand the wifey nagin about it everytime we go out lol. Thank you for the help!

when I had mine on it didn't make much noise either, the only holes in my bar other than the ends I drilled for the lights. did you use tube with holes already in it?

Hey guys.

So over the weekend I filled the 3 holes in the lightbar that I drilled for running the wires through. It still makes noise If the noise wasnt so loud I wouldnt worry about it but it seems WAY louder then it should. Any other ideas would be great... I made sure that I filled them really good.

Lol, like I said."Any" ideas would be great. I will take a few pics when I get home if its still light out. Ill take them either way... ill be back on in a couple hours with pics. Thanks for your help so far.

Try sliding it forward on the roof, so your 1" mounting bar (that's inside the roof rack rail) is butting up against the aerodynamic front cover of the roof rack. It's possible that gap is causing your whistle.

Thank you. I will give that a shot around noon. Ill have to loosen the wires somewhere in the interior to give it that extra couple inches lol. Ill let you know how it goes.
