Snorkel

I know on James' site and on the OS there was some talk of a modified Xterra snorkel, but I was thinking why not use a Tahoe snorkel. Since the TB looks like a little Tahoe it would seem like less modding would be needed to make it fit properly and function on a TB. Apparently either my google skills are lacking or there is not an after market snorkel for the Tahoe.

I did however come up with a few alternatives to trying to mod one; if you're going to mod, go all out and start from scratch:

I don't believe a finalized product was ever 'released' though. I believe the snorkel <-> airbox still needed to be finalized/sealed, etc.

Come to think of it, he's still posting, maybe he could enlighten us on whatever happened to the snorkel project... Unless he's too busy with coilovers

OregTrailBlazin used a Tacoma snorkel if I recall. The issue was finding/modding an airbox to work properly, as the stock airbox is anything but sealed.

Edit... Looks like we were both right!

The snorkel is off a 95-04Taco/ 96-024Runner. I did have to cut the snorkel and Re-weld it back together to get its profile to match a bit better. I wish I had some pics of the process, it was beautiful. You cannot tell where I had to cut it.

I figured it wouldn't take too long before a thread poped up, expecially after the last discussion about this on the introductions page...

Fitting the Snorkel to the truck is no problem, the main thing is a new airbox/washer fluid combo. The airbox James found (on the OS) seems to be the ticket. The main thing that has been holding me up, is I can't weld Aluminum at the moment, and I want to build a new Washer Fluid Res out of Alloy. I'm sure someone could spend some time down at the junk yard and find the right washer bottle that would work just fine, but I like doing things the hard way

I can't get the intake through the inner fender without moving the washer bottle. If I went above where the Res is now, it would go through the fender too high, where there's not enough room for the 3" to run front to back. It also would also go right through the support Rail/tube like guy holding that fender and supporting the Radiator support. If I was willing to pull my fender off, and weld a cross tube through that fender support it wouldn't be a problem. But I would much prefer to just build a new washer Bottle!!

Think anyone could tell if we switched Fenders too?

Hey... So basically every snorkel for us will be unique, we need to find a way for a bunch of us to do it fairly easily!

Easiest, most ghetto-tastic way is 3" ABS tubing + rubber clamps attached to body work with the filter on top.

I saw an old Subaru with that once... Functional, but ugly as sin.

I'm sure we've all seen some beater trucks with that set up, but theres no real way to use that in rain or when not going slow thru water. the filter set up like that can get water into it, or get wet from rain, then theres nothing else to stop the water from getting to the engine.

You can do a ghetto but functional snorkel with a proper upper tip, even if this one is on backwards.

Or you could always use a "U" fitting on the top of the ABS and use an inline air filter.

An alternative for some of you to consider. The unit Expeditions West has on their JK extends further down the body, similar to where our stock air box resides. Might negate the current issue w/ the washer fluid reservoir:

I am curious.... Does the body lift relocate all of those tanks, reservoirs, etc or do they stay in place. I would imagine they stay in place, and that a snorkel could be installed with considerably less modification.

The fluid reservior is bolted to the body, not the frame.
