Offroad Trailblazers and Envoys

interested in trailblazer lt but im still unsure on it

Dumping ground for offroad Trailblazer or Envoy general discussion.

hey guys im looking into a 2002 trailblazer lt, and i was wondering, are they good in the snow? and how about trails? would you say they do pretty well on them? once i get a better job i would buy better tires and get a lift and buy other aftermarket parts. but a jeep seems so much lighter and nimbler compared to this and that seems like it would do better on trails but dont seem nearly as comfortable. if you guys can help that'd be great

I've had my TB for 4yrs and 93,000 miles with no regets yet and none in site.
Jeep have better support for offroad aftermarket parts, But yes the TB is way more comfy and I think there is a petty good support network, If only here I still like it. :flex dirty:

A stock Jeep JK is very similar in ability to a TB.

A Jeep JK rubicon is similar in ability to a well lifted TB with a rear locker.

Differences include, a SFA in the jeep, IFS in the TB. On road, the TB should handle better, and you won't run into death wobble with IFS. With the Jeep aftermarket support, you should be able to take the Jeep beyond the abilities of a TB, but the capabilities of a well built TB are actually very good.

If you are looking to buy, try to get the G80 locking rear end.
You would see the code G80 in the glove box.

If I remember the LT,LS (non EXT, non V8) TB's have the 8.0 rear which the G80 is the only locker avail.
If you get a v8 model or EXT and I think the SS, they have the 8.6 rear end which has some aftermarket support for lockers.

they have their little quirks like most vehicles but I plan to keep mine.

Too bad it's a unibody.

Diacom wrote:SS have 14 bolt rearends...

Full float? I'm really not familiar with the SS.

EDIT:

Answered my own question, semi float:

Image

So it's not a "true 14 bolt" then...?

It's the 9.5" 14bolt... not a 14bolt FF. And with the frequency that built SS's break stuff, they are hard to come by.

Jees, they don't suck! Well, maybe a little.
A typical Jeep guy won't buy a TB and I'm sure glad they don't. You must be atypical to try to run the path we are set on with this platform—it's not for everyone. You must want to lead to achieve your goal with these truck not just be content to be a follower of the multi-crowd.

Randy and Mike... you missed the sarcasm in my post. The OP was told that the GC does not have a frame, so he assumed, strictly because of this... that they are "no good". OP needs to evaluate his mission/goals for the vehicle, his budget, etc... and not ask subjective questions. My $0.02.

:Iagree: Just saying though the YJ's can be fun to build but they are not cheap at all lol

I love my TB. That is why I still have it and that is why I am on this forum. If I had I Jeep, I would love that. If a had a Dodge, I would love that. Of course, I would also be on forums supporting those vehicles. We are all advocates for this platform and our opinions are probably all going to point you towards a Trailblazer. Objectively, this is THE BEST vehicle I have ever owned in terms of style/versatility/reliability. Nobody can dictate your personal style but you, so what we think is irrelevant. With enough money, anything can be made to fit your mission.
