Has anyone installed a larger fuel tank?

Not too sure what you mean but iif you are saying I drive fast you are wrong. As it is I shouldn't have my license so with having a driving job there is no way I can afford to speed. And my tb only gets used for longer trips snce I got the tacoma.
Than again my tires are always at 35 psi and I could definitely use a tune.

You must have some heavy ass wheels/tires.... or a heavy foot.

I figured I was probably close to the bottom of the fuel economy list here with suspension and body lift and 4.56 gears.

My goodness but there is a large variation.

When my truck was stock I got a consistant 305-315 in town. 18 mpg steady. More on long trips. After the lift it dropped to 250-280 per tank with stock tires. After the tires it dropped to 225-250 so far but I havent gone through a tank yet without using 4wd and my speedo is off so I have no idea what I am actually getting. I have 3:73 gears too.

However my friends '06 has never gotten more than 15 mpg avg. Once on a road trip he said he got 17. His truck is bone stock. with 3:42 gears. He is actually selling it and buying a truck because he can get the same gas milage lifted as he can stock in his TB. He loves mine but hates his. I don't blame him though, my truck is sexy.

My old TB got i think 225 per tank when lifted, My new one was getting 250 to a half of a tank when I was driving it on leave. I got an EXT so it has a 25 gallon tank. plus I have 3.42's in it so we will see how good it is after lift.

34x12's with 18" rims... I drive like a grandma and get 11... I'm due for an oil change so I should be getting around 12 again after that... Not to mention my driving is probably 90% city

I use to get 350-400 before lift and larger tires, haven't checked if since but think I'm getting 225-250.

Geez, I'm jealous of some and not so much of the others.

My truck before lift got 15.7 in town and 19 highway

With lift and same 255/70/16's I get 15.0 in town and 18.3 highway.

My truck has always sucked on gas and I even drive like a bluehair.

Hey I dug out the manual and I was wrong. It does say it is an 18.7 gal tank as the base model. I have never ever fit even 16 gal. and I usually run the tank down to the light for 2 tanks or so right before I swap the fuel filter. Still never taken 16 gal.

It also says the TB with RPO NNK has the 22 gal. and the EXT has a 25.3 gal.

So apparently "All capacities are approximate" in the owners manual is somewhat a loose designation. From 15.5 gal to saying it is an 18.7 gal. Wow. Kind of like saying "Well it takes 7 quarts of oil, but it may be as low as 5 or as much as 10. You decide.

i got the 22 tank... when down to light i only take 20... the light comes on with 2 gallons or so left... you woulnt want the light to come on just as your about to burn your last drop of gas now would you?

I agree but that is almost 3 full gallons difference. Last year on a road trip I went about 30 miles (On highway) with the light on in the middle of BFE and it still didn't take 16 gallons. But it was close IIRC. 15.8 or 15.9 because I remember thinking that was the most I had ever put in the tank.

Sounds like to end the debate, the only solution is to fully drain the tank, then measure what it takes to fill it.

Another factor is how bent your frame support bar is. Mine's pretty well bent into the tank and is probably taking away a gallon or so.

I actually ran mine out when I pulled into the gas station last summer. It took 18 gallons (I have the 18.7 gallon tank).

Normal fill up when the trip computur tells me I have 23 miles remaining is in the 16.5 to 16.8 gallon range.

Oh I think I'm having a debate with myself on this one. With my luck it probably has 3 gallons worth of sediment in the tank. Oh well Im ditching it so when I get it out I might see how much water it holds. I could have a stuck sensor bar or something as well. I have never run it to the point of no fuel at all.

My buddy found me a 22 gal tank with the remote filter (Which is what mine has), fuel pump, and the bracket and straps from an '04 for $175 so its on order now.

James after you mentioned the bent supports I climbed under the truck and started poking my nose around in detail. I don't have anything bent that I can see at all. Unless it is damaged on the top of the tank it looks really good.

Ah, the cross-frame tube that runs below the tank is really bent on mine.

I had to remove the cross-frame tube from mine in about 2005. It was damaged to the point of not doing anything
