Driving and Fog Lights + Quadbeam Mod

I used the diode mod from that other site for the quadbeams. Added to that were Hella Micro DE fog lights and KC 5" Round 100 Watt driving lights (KC 1485). The KC's came with the Kennesaw bumper--they're available in fog, flood, driving or long range beam patterns; I opted for the driving. Here are the results:











Stock low beams:

Stock high beams added (remember without the quad mod the above two would shut off when the highs are switched on):

This is easily one of my favorite mods; well worth the cost and the effort. The Hella fogs do a great job of lighting up the sides of the road and lighting up the ground in front of you when offroad and the KC's add considerable range over the stock brights.

I will probably add more in the future but this combo does a pretty good job of providing a very good baseline without having to add lights on the roof (which must be covered, can't be used on the highway) or the bumper where they'll block the radiator and be vulnerable to impacts. I'll probably do others in the future but it's nice to not have to rely on them.

FWIW I'm in Washington too and have never been hassled about my uncovered roof lights.

Hey if your interested we could do that diode mod when you come by to do the plugs, I have wanted to do that mod for abit and after seeing how much it helps at night I am doing it for sure, could do both TB's. I think the diode is like 2 bucks at radioshack.

I'm going to try to buy new fog light bulbs and might even break down and buy Silverstars for the headlights, yeah, we can do that. I'll hit you up on BBM after the Guppies game.

Back when I had big bucks to spend I got the most expensive Silverstars you can buy for our TB both high and low beams, man are they worth the money. IMO night and day and with the quad light mod you shouldn't have any problem seeing anything.

What is the diode mod that you used? Im doing my lights in the next couple weeks and looking at a couple options for the quad beam. thanks

there are a few ways to choose from, the os talks about them to. this is the cheapest mod
we will ever do at like 2 dollars or so. anyway the way i did it is: part #276-1104
and its two rectifier diodes (in4005)at radio shack.go to fuse panel under rear seat.take off cover for fuses.
you will see 2 harnesses on the side of panel,an upper and lower.find the green an white wire slot on the upper harness.
then insert the anode side(or black side) into this slot. the other end the cathode side(or silver stripe side)twists together with your other diodes cathode side.

(i soldered them) and plug this into the black and white wire slot on the lower harness. now plug the anode side(or black side) into the pink and white wire slot on the lower harness. i know it sounds a little confusing but once you start with everything in hand its really easy. i had to fold the wire ends on the diodes that were pushed in the slots to have a better connection,you will see what i mean. no cutting of wires was needed.however you could always skin a little off the wires and solder.takes seconds to reverse this if needed.

now when you hit your high beams your lows stay on and fogs stay on.check your laws, some states are more strict than others with 6 lights runnin. haha to make matters worse i have my 2 bumper mounted kc lights relayed off the hi beam sw also! talkin bout light! you will have fun with this.

i know what im adding in when i rewire everything! (adding in a wig wag to hi beam and bumper lights,wiring the bumper lights to come on automatically with hi beams,cb radio's to be powered only when vehicle is turned on)

Anton, I see you used two diodes but others only used one, am I missing something?

one diode allows the low beams to stay on when you hit the high beams on. normally the fogs would go off whenever the highs are activated. but with the second diode your fogs will stay on with high beams. not sure if you can get all 6 lights on with just one diode. there are other ways to do this but are more complex. the 2 diode method seemed the easiest and most practical.
