Went in hoping to just check out the area, but of course it turned into an entire day... Apparently my camera is pretty shitty, hopefully Stoked will post up some better pics. He has a little trail carnage at the expense of some rednecks recovery... One of the guys on the atvs at least knew what he was doing and stuck with us til he got us out. (we were both stuck at one point)

That doesn't look that horrible... 4WD and some momentum, and no problem... You didn't go in slowly in 2WD, and get the rear end sunk before switching to 4WD, did you? Seen that happen too many times to count...

Bigger one is mine, other tb is Stoked (Juan). I'm not the person who trys to tell you how 2wd is just as good as 4wd. I always wish I had 4x4, kind of waiting on Kyle to do a SAS swap as I don't really want to be the guinea pig, or a great deal on an old cherokee to come by as a second beater truck. But hey, its better than being lowered! :flex dirty:

Like Rob said, we initially went to check out the area, but as we successfully completed each section, we ventured further in until we got in over our heads. We definitely reached the limits of our vehicles and got to pratice a lot of vehicle recoveries, even lost my sunroof in the proccess. Also, 4x4 is great, definitely helped; But once the chassis was sitting on the ground, it was close to impossible to get out of that situation (I need more clearance). Nonetheless, it was a nice day for offroading.

Things to take next time:
- Hi lift
- Recovery straps w/o metal hooks
- Bridging ladder
- Beer :friday:

So, I dont know of any good sites to host videos, but i was able to do it with image shack. The first video shows a good example of how NOT to do a dynamic recovery.

Cable snaps(57s), I realize my sunroof is smashed(65s) :pale: :

Imagine what the cable would've done to that guy's head had it snapped at the other end... He didn't take the slack out first?? How much did he have to drink?? :slap:

It would've done the same thing it did to the sunroof, no he didnt let out slack (retard), and some were pretty drunk. We needed all the help we could get, we were unprepared.

Yeah, that was the first recovery of the day. I learned my lesson later that day.

Stoked, I see from your build thread you bought a Hilift. Did you also get the LiftMate accessory to be able to lift up on the wheels to put stuff underneath them? Otherwise there's no place on a normal (no rock slider, no bumper) trailvoy to use a Hilift.

Might also want an Offroad Base (or piece of plywood) so that jack doesn't bury itself in the dirt.

Right now I have a black hefty bag as a sun roof. Sunroof doctor was the cheapest place and they have someone offer mechanical advice on how to replace it yourself, if possible. In our case, only two bolts on each side.

Yeah, right now I dont have the cash for the lift mate, but at least I already have the hi lift, I cant still use it to winch or w/e. I was thinking that maybe I can rig up something similar myself, but I'm kinda iffy about it. Something like running recovery rope though two spokes, setting the runner on top of the tire, then somehow tying the rope to the runner. If I comeup with something trailworthy, I'll post it up, otherwise i'll spare myself the embarrasment :safe: .

It worries me when I see these things happen to our guys.

Please, please read through our recovery article. http://www.offroadtb.com/articles/vehicle-recovery

You guys were lucky... it could have been much worse than a sun roof.
