Oil Pan Question

Dumping ground for offroad Trailblazer or Envoy general discussion.

Is there any new oil pans for the 4.2L that have some kind of baffle in it to prevent the engine from being staved of oil when going up a hill? Nearly shit myself when my dash looked like a disco ball going up a nice incline last week, and just remembered to asked.

I have not seen anything or had that issue, but I have had the fuel pump not seeming to have the pressure to pump up at full throttle steep climbs. What lights went off and did you have the oil filled?
I hate to advocate weird chemicals, alcohol, violence or insanity to anyone...but
they've always worked for me.

Oil level is full, dirty, but full... I got the "Check Gauges", the Check Engine, and my oil pressure gauge dropped really quick... My thought is that going up the hill, the oil pickup couldn't get any more oil since it all sloshed to the back.

I'll get this oil change this Saturday (hopefully, my grandfather is in critical care after having a ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm this morning and surgery fixed it) and we'll see if that fixes my oil issue...

How steep of a grade? Seems like it'd require a very steep climb to move all that oil away from the pickup.

I honestly have no idea how steep... It was a continous grade, about 500 feet on some slick dry grass.

Something inside of me wants to say 45 degree +/- some, but like I said, honestly, not a fricken clue.

I've noticed drastic changes in the gauge in really steep inclines (normally found on forest roads), but never to the point of getting lights and warnings all over the instrument cluster.
This is an aggressive post. You probably won’t like it. It is quite doubtful that you have the taste or sophistication to be able to appreciate a post of this quality and depth.

I can't answer your question, but I can confirm having this happen as well. Something to the effect of "shut off engine" has came up on the DIC twice while going up a steep incline.

It does make sense... Most vehicles have a sump in the rear of the engine, and have oil pressure issues from stopping or going DOWN steep hills... I gather that because of where our diff is, our sump is in the front of the engine, which causes oil to sit on the shelf at the shallow part of the pan, when you're pointing up hill too steep for too long...

:Iagree: Just out of curiosity could you hear the crank slapping the oil? I had that problem in my T/A when I would auto-x hard on braking. You could hear it cavitating in the oil, and it had a baffle.
