I have these cans, and they're great! All you have to do is change the seals to put gas in them! I sold 2 of mine, currently have 2. They're a good buy!

Why do you need to change the seals? So the fuel won't eat the current one?

Exactly. The cans were originally designed for water, but the enamel liner is safe for gas.

If they were designed for water. would it not be illegal to put gas in them?

There are minimal regulations on transport of gas in quantities less than 5 gallons.
It's really a matter of your own personal safety... if the can leaks, it sucks for you... if the enamel is eaten by the gasoline and becomes emulsified in the gasoline, sucks for your engine... if the fumes leak, sucks for you... There's no real public safety danger. Although Canada or Kalifornia may have tighter regs.

Mike(bartonmd) has had fuel stored in these same cans for about a year, no lining has been deteriorated/eaten. The gasket used is fine for upright storage. A nitrile/buna-x gasket would be best. Raw material is available to make custom gaskets.

As per our convo a minute ago, I thought you had the same cans I did, and you thought I had the same cans you did... I have the "diesel" cans, with the small mouth, but the same gasket. They have been fine for about a year, except I have replaced 2 of the gaskets. They weren't leaking, but they had expanded and cracked.
I have heard that these have been fine for fuel, though...

Yes, the difference between our cans is the mouth size. I believe the lining is the same. As for the gasket... nitrile/buna-x rubber is an appropriate gasket material for Gasoline and Diesel. This is available in sheets from various online retailers. I am going to order a sheet to do gaskets for my can(s). I can order an extra sheet to make gaskets for any buyers.

I do have the exact same cans you have, Mario... from Deutsche Optik? I've got mine painted red and gas stored upright for over 3 months, no problems. I need to get that gasket material before I carry it in the TB.

Hope you are giving that gas a shot of Sta-bil. Gas will go bad in less time than that, especially in the heat.
