MOD: Power Inverter

Finally got around to wiring up a power inverter I had. Unit is an Equalizer 1500w/3000w peak. I have no intention of ever running this thing at full blast, so I did not use the suggested 2awg wire to install. Manufacturer also suggests running no longer than 6ft of this 2awg. That would have put the inverter under the dash or in the engine bay, not what I was looking to do.

I mounted the inverter to the side of my sub box on the pass side. I ran a 4awg fused power wire from the power block I already had in the back for the amp. The power block is fed by 4awg wire from the battery. I'm running a 60amp fuse for the inverter currently... not sure if I'd ever need higher. I grounded it at one of the bolts for the rear seat.

I like that it has a hookup for a remote too, that's pretty neat... just gotta figure out the pin out.

By the way, what's a 'sub box'? Does that hold diving gear?

Yeah, the RC power switch is interesting. I put a call in to Equalizer asking for some manuals... will see what they send me.

I'm interested in this too, especially because of the RC plug and it's capabilities/functions. Where did you pick this up and what did it end up running you? I don't know if I'd ever need 1500w but it would be nice to have.

I know audio is far below the bottom of the list for some of you. But I will def be putting a shallow mount sub. I love music, and spend a lot of time in my truck for trips and work. A lil bass would be more than welcome to my ears. Along with new speakers in my doors cause my stock speakers are starting to distort, and i want more fidelity and clarity. plus the sub will be great when i watch movies.

Back to the inverter mod. Has anyone ever found a need for 1500w? I have a small inverter that plugs into the cig lighter. According to its out put it should power my laptop charger but it doesnt. So id like to have something that can do that, plus a few other devices as well.

Looks like a nice inverter. Does it feature full sine wave? I would mount it in the engine compartment if I had a nice waterproof case to put it in.

I think it would be interesting to rebuild the alternator to output AC voltage. It was do-able in some older alts I have seen, but I am unsure about the newer types.
