Removing Front Swaybar

BDS, ReadyLift, Smaxx... You name it, we know about it here.

I think id rather keep mine on, and have disconnects to take them off on the trail. I have an ext, so I bet my body roll will be quite a bit worse then the swb.

I'm pretty sure mine front is going to stay disconnected. I wasn't too worried about the body roll anyway, it is predictable and nothing too bad. It feels WAY better now. No more side to side thrashing is fantastic...even if it is just road bumps or mall rated stuff so far.
Lift, shocks, wheels and tires installed...need some armor now.

Finally took the plunge myself today. I've gotta say it feels much better. Even the ruts in my driveway feel nonexistent now. I didn't get to take it to the dirt and rock, but on the highway it even feels good. There is a slight bit of additional body roll, but nothing uncomfortable. As for the removal, kind of a pain. After many attempts to salvage all of the pieces, I finally said f*ck it, and had to cut the drivers side end link off. Oh well... it was shot anyway. I guess it's time to go get it dirty!!! :flex dirty:

I ran all winter without any swaybars and onrod it is not bad, but off it felt tippy to me, but it could be cause I have rolled before. I just reconnected and plan to take the front off, but leave the back.

I'm now thinking it may be a good idea for me now too, for the front. The sway bar bushings are shot (I hate the noise made), but the endlinks have less than 5,000 miles. Except for Mark's lift, all suspension and tires are currently stock. I'll see what happens. :mechanic:

I disconnected the front and drove on road yesterday about 75 miles of freeway and back roads. I think the payback for off road articulation may be worth it although there is a real difference on the street such as body lean and lack of a crisp turn-in to corners. Overall not bad.

I may reconnect mine just for the fact it's so damn easy to unbolt already. If your off road and want it disconnected you'd better already have an 7mm Allen and 21mm wrench with you. :poke:

Easy and sounds like a winning hand to me.

Edit: IMO, I would not remove the rear bar unless the truck was for off road use only.

Went on a drive yesterday and found a rock for a poser pic. I don't have a pic with the swaybar on, but I hope you all know what your truck is like with it on. Hopefully this is of some help for someone.

As I've said in a previous post, I love having the front removed!!! Haven't tried the rear yet. Gonna wait until my excursion back to New Mexico to experiment.

So after I replaced most of the front suspension I decided to not replace the endlinks and just give it a go, I just zip tied them to the bar. The truck is actually less jarring with the 89 springs and seems more civil in general. I've only driven about 80mi and most of it on the highway at 60mph or so, so it's not a ton of experience, but my impressions are positive so far.

+1 for removing the bar. I didn't notice that much diffrence in the roll. Altho I did have the original links from 2001 still on lol so I don't think they were doin much. It's a defiant improvement in articulation. I'll test it out on the trail in a day or two. :safari:

the only real issue I've seen is that the pass tire rubs hard at a very specific angle while backing out. The extra articulation makes things more difficult. An entire parking lot of a dozen people stared while I backed out at an angle that rubbed my front bumper. The noise is amazing.

Guess I've got more cutting to do

I got real lucky with the front it only took me bout ten min but the rear will take more work i had to torch off the original links in the rear but the fronts were a piece of cake. What all did you have to do to disco the rear?

I agree. I have been running without a rear sway bar for several months now. Just removed it alltogether. With the front connected its a nice ride. Almost can't tell its missing, but seems a bit smoother.

For offroad I got Mike's quick disco's and take them off. Awesoe offroad. Right now still haven't connected the front yet (lost a pin), so its a bit rolly, but kind oif fun to drive around town, just being carefull on sharper turns.

Also have 87's up front to compensate a lil bit.

How's the handling at high speeds with both disconnected? That's what I worry about much more than low speed city handling.

I drove alot with no bars and high speed is not bad except some strong crosswinds caused it to lean and that felt odd
