Offroad Trailblazers and Envoys

My knockoff of JD's amazing tire carrier.

Any special projects involving a decent amount of fab work (bumpers, sliders, roof racks, etc)

I really need to post up my trail ride threads so I can get my rank. :work:

I literally have hundreds of pictures.

bgwolfpack wrote:Fishstick's have you thought of selling these? Could the 18" cross bar be bolted rather than welded for shipping? :coffee2:

I think Neil was offering to make something like them wasn't he? I literally made mine from junk in my garage.

If you're asking if I'll make you one then the answer if of course "Yes."

I guess if others really want something like this I could price out raw materials. I honestly never considered making more than one.

I certainly would not want to cut Neil out of anything. He's awesome at what he does but I guess I missed that he offers them, although he could build anything.

Thanks for the offer but I saw reading the thread that there are others who need or want one. You put this together quick and it looks good. Just trying to help out.

You can get fold down bolt on mounts for trailers and rv's tht may work. I have one and am going to be fbbing up something relly soonto try. Under 50 bucks in it, I also have a solid mount I can hack up to try if my idea doesnt work, but I was wondering how the hilift on the bar was working out. Solid enough? Any advice for me adding one?

I've had zero trouble with the Hi-Lift on the carrier like I have it. 1" bar fits nicely in the groove on the rail of the Hi-Lift. The bolts are just grade 5 carriage head bolts that I put through the holes I drilled and welded the heads on the other side. I use wing nuts and lock washers and have never had a loosening problem.

I just need to figure out what to do with my shovel since I have it ghetto tied to the jack right now.

I think they have a mount that hooks to the hilift for a shovel if you look around. Would keep it all neat and tidy then.

Cant find what I was thinking of...but this is an idea..

Definitely not my cup of tea, but interesting idea.

I think I may just weld on a second bar and grab some of those QuickFist things for my shovel.

I bent my frame cross-brace today on some rocks. :wallbash: So my gas tank is at the forefront of my mind right now. Shovel is backseated.

Quick fists work well for a shovel... it works much better than alternatives... like bungees - which I used for a couple months before the fists.

He's been workin on my spare tire carrier for like 2 months or more now and very rarely answers my PM's...

Last he got back to me he was busy with school and other projects, and sent me pics of it almost completed but now its been 2 more weeks and nothin'.

Scratch that... make it 3 weeks. Kinda dissappointed, I mean I know he is prob really busy.

Here is what he's in the process of making me... I asked for it to be close to the rear so thats why it bends toward the vehicle.

But when he sent me these pics I just asked him to cut the reciever part down at least in half... I don't want it sticking out that far. He also asked for my bolt pattern and backspacing to finish it up, but hasn't made any progress so far or gotten back to me about shorten it up a bit.

Not trying to step on his balls or anythin' just puttin it out there that it most likely not going to be a speedy proccess for some of his fab work. And I'm sure it'll be of awesome quality and be worth the wait.

Why the receiver extention with the tire carrier. I would much rather have the trailer mounted normally and have my spare on or in the trailer. I do not see the advantage to having the extra extention out there since it changes your weight carrying, tongue weight, and towing amounts. I definitely would not have a shackle hanging way out there as a recovery point. The chain loops on the hitch would be much better than that.

I just want to have a shackle on there and also don't want it out that far. I should have just asked him to have the whole peice going into the reciever to be solid and only stick out mabe a inch or so with a hole to hang the shackle..

Don't do much if any towing, so its not really needed, just an option more or less, but thats what I've been trying to ask him to change, but haven't heard back in a while. Want it to be like JD's more or less. But I agree with you.

I don't know if he will be able to cut it down much. If he does, your hitch may not fit all the way in. You would probably have to re-drill the hitch to fit into that short of a receiver.. But its hard to tell by pics!! Who's rig does he have for mock-up?

I'd also say that it looks as if your tire will interfere with the extension on the way down. Doesn't look like it'd lay flat... the tire would rest on the hitch.

it seems it would have been better to just have a shackle mount sticking out and then add the fold down tire carrier on top of that. i do lik that you have it coming back into the vehicle. I would like one about an inch from the rear door if possible, but am going cheap and simple on my first one just to have it for tecore. I have a solid one that turns back toward the body and may cut it up later.
