Spacer Question

Will a 1.5 inch spacer move the tire out far enough to run KO2's 265/70r17 without a lift? If not, would a 1 or 2 inch lift be sufficient to clear space? I'm looking for more of an "expedition" vehicle as opposed to a rock climber. Driving to camp sites, getting around trails a such without much fuss.

I found a lot of good info on tires, lifts, and spacers, but mostly I am trying to see with just spacers what can you do, and whether or not I should just get the lift and spacers.

I run Goodyear Dura Tracs 265/70 17 with 1.5" spacers and the 2.5" lift from Mark. I had to do minor trimming to clear up some rubbing issues. I had no problems when I was running Kelly Edge tires so depending on your tire selection you may need some minor trimming

So here is where I get confused, see the attached picture. The 275 tire is slightly taller than the 255, and a lot wider, but according to the chart it does not require a lift while the 255 does.

If I remember correctly that chart was made up from specs of other members vehicles. If you are looking for a tire around the 31" mark you can probably get away with just wheel spacers, but will as depend on which tire you go with. All tires are made different like some have more of a squared profile which will rub alot more than a tire that has more of a round profile. Sidewalls are bigger on some tires which also play part in rubbing.

It looks like you are looking at 265/70/17r which is a 31.5" roughly. You will likely need spacers and a 2" lift with the KO2's as those have meatier sidewalls than standard tires.

I have just under 1.5" clearance from my ball joint to tire with my Dura Tracs. If I didn't have spacers the tires would rub. But with my old Kelly tires it may have cleared but I believe the K02 have the same profile as my Dura Tracs. With my lift and spacers I am fine. Good luck with your project.

Yup you are right and helped, I also talked with Mark MC, spacers and lift with either the 255 or 265/70r17 is the way to go. So 265 it is on the 2" lift with spacers. Seems to be the most economical way to get it off the ground a bit and add some bigger tires. Thank you guys for your help! Getting the Envoy ready over the next couple months, should have it good to go in a year or so.

Is 1.5" wheels spacers a must or can we use 1" or even 3/4" and what's the tallest tire with spacers and no lift

At 1.2" you will have to do some grinding on the rear studs.

You can use 1 inch spacers with grinding and not affect threads of studs.
