Custom roof rack and RTT help

One quick question. Where is a good spot to mount a hi-lift? The extra rack space is for recovery boards and don't want to pay a ridiculous amount for a swing spare tire carrier w/ hi-lift mount. I was thinking of mounting straight to the lift gate horizontally??? Not sure though.

I don't think mounting to the lift gate is good idea as I don't think the stock shocks would hold it up without maybe replacing them. Were is your spare tire? Are you still running stock tires? Is there room to mount between the roof and the RTT support? From the picture it looks like you could get most of it under there. If your bully bar wasn't mounted to the weak radiator supports I say use that with some type of clamp. See Dirtybacons build.

30 seconds to remove the whole rack and tent eh? You must be extremely well built, or have an extremely light tent. Even when I had help, removal took me forever just due to it's sheer mass. Now that I've got a crane to assist, it's much less effort, but probably takes me an hour to take it from it's storage spot in the ceiling to the top of the truck or vice versa.

As for the hilift, the tail gate could probably work if you reinforced the sheet metal adequately to prevent tear out. You would need to upgrade the gas shock rods, otherwise it will never stay open.

Yeah, just took it on and off this weekend. Whole platform and tent took maybe a minute at most to take off. The platform gives nice handles to grab and it's only roughly 150lbs total which isn't bad between two people.

I run the 2883 smittybilt overlander xl. I never take mine off due to us8ng it so much. I still average 20mpg on the highway and 17.5 city. I slowed my speed to 65 though on the interstate. Flyingfischer5 you will not be disappointed. I ran the 2783 before i got the larger one.

As for the hilift....i keep mine strapped to the backseat on the floor up against the seat. 60 inch hilift extreme. And a ax under the seat. Slides in perfect from the passenger side rig by under the seat.

Not sure about behind the seat yet. Not sure what I'm doing for a storage or if I'll have room yet. I'll keep that spot in mind though.

Mine isnt behind the seat its on the floor in front of the seat strapped to the hinges of the seat to keep it up aints the seat. I only have kids in the back so im not worried about the leg room just yet lol.
