A little direction on my Steering rack.

So I have had this issue when turning steering wheel while vehicle is NOT moving and it will stall. I replaced my power steering pump no too long ago and that did not stop the issue.

The other day I was in drive way and straightened out wheels while not moving. It almost stalled out. I looked under my driver side and a pile of grease and some oil substance on ground. just a small pile. Look up and it came from inside of inner tie rod, so looks like rack and pinion. Ofcourse all that in there is oiled and greased all over from leaking.

So I got to get in and clean it all up so I can see exact location of leak, but this sounds like the rack and pinion to me??...

How hard is it? Recommendations for replacement? Any thoughts on your experience?

The system is pretty straight forward with not much to go wrong. If it's not the pump failing, the cooler which is probably super old by now, which a lot of people will be changing soon, and the wack. What it sounds like if you don't have an air pocket and the leak isn't in the front. You possibly have a bad leak on the rack or a bad rack. Look under there some more, because the rack is a pain to replace but there are guides everywhere

Thanks for info. I was worried it may be a pain with the location. I'll get under and clean everything to inspect. Never touched a rack and didn't know had a cooler.

Hey man, check your ps lines that run under your battery, they are inside of a rubber cylinder piece, my lines corroded right there and it caused issues for me

Your engine should be capable of making more than enough power at idle to not stall. I'd hazard a guess is your throttle body needs cleaned, and is stopping it from making the minor throttle corrections at idle (We don't have an IAC) to correct for loads like power steering and such. A cheap/free place to start, anyway.

OK yeah it may be gunked up again. Put that on list while I am in there.

The throttle body is something easy and takes under 10 mins if you have long ball allen sockets from Harbor Freight that break a million different ways. It's easy to pop it off and rule anything out. Make sure to remove connection first though.
