BDS Suspension - Shock discussion

Which will you be ordering? The 55619 or 95619.

Based on what's been posted here, I think the 55619 fits the bill. I'd love to spring for the 95619 right now... but just spent some money on lighting.

From what you guys are showing me with the Tahoe shocks I think you will be much happier with our shocks. I don't think you will be disappointed with the 5500s. They have served us well from many years.

Found a semi local distributor who can get the 55619s for $41 each with free shipping... going to be ordering mine real soon!!

My local distributor (Gresham 4WD) is saying $45ea + shipping. BDS website says free shipping to authorized distributors.

Think I may just order from the website and have BDS ship it to this place.

Agreed you 're better off to cut Gresham4wd out of the equation.

I spent a little more when I ordered my 5500's from BDS directly and just had them shipped to my door.

Sorry I've been working (you all should know the story of that) and didn't get to this while it was a hot topic earlier. Teebes is running a set of 55000's in the rear at Moab at the moment, with my takeoff front struts with EXT springs. He carries a bit less than I do inside, but has the added weight of the trailer hitch and now his offroad bike on the tongue. We'll get a report when he gets back about this trip, but I've been with him 3-4 times since the upgrade and hear nothing but good about them.

As Matt said, and I can confirm even more now after 5-6 trips to the desert washboards, the 95000's ROCK! Even aired down, I could do 8-10 MPH on some washes without bone-jarring rattles and skidding around. With the new BDSs, I can do 30-35 MPH even, they never fade, and I KNOW they're taking a lot of heat. You guys behind me trying to keep up in Fish Creek Wash after we hit Sandstone Canyon around thanksgiving can discuss if it was easy to keep up. Never thought I'd feel like a bit of a prerunner, but some of the new performance is in the Icon fronts, and the rest is in the BDS rears matched better to the Z71 springs.

Now I need to change out the lower control arms in the front because the Icons are banging the heck out of the rubber bushing that holds the lower coilover pin in. Sigh.....

Will address other technical questions over the weekend.....

I'm pretty sure I always recommended against putting in the Tahoe shocks that came for free with many of the spring sets being sold on Ebay. Miserable skinny-ass little things.

Uh-oh Jim I see you have some things to get done as well. I sprang for the 9500"s,I had the cash at the time and now I'm broke and I love it. The ride is unbelievable, I would suggest them to everyone!

Before buying my lift and associated tires, etc, I plan to completely rebuild my front suspension and replace the shocks all the way around. Does anyone know if the BDS shocks will work on a non-lifted TB?

Sorry Rob...I hadn't got to your email yet today. I will just answer here for everyone's benefit.

Our shocks will be too long for the stock configuration. The problem is with the extra extended length allowing the rear coils to become unseated and potentially fall out of place. This wouldn't be an issue if you never fully extend your suspension but it's not be worth taking the chance. We've had coils fall out on us before while testing various non-compatible components and I am here to tell you it is not fun....or safe for that matter and we were even expecting it to happen.

Depending on when you decide to lift, you might be able to just wait it out with your current shocks or buy an inexpensive auto parts store brand to get you by until it is time to lift.

I must have four pairs of takeoffs (2 pairs are normal length) by now I can put up in the classifieds for somebody to use as a temporary workaround. Let me dig through the garage. I'll even autograph them with a Sharpie like I did my first set of spacers that Mario's now running.

You're not doing anything wrong. I did a zip search as well and noticed they were missing for some reason. They will be added as soon as my webmaster can get to it. I thought something was weird when you said your dealer was 100 miles away and you were in the Indy area.

Seriously though, we actually just signed on a dealer right in Elmira within the last 4 or 5 months. The store name is Tom Hollerans Auto Parts. They are still getting up to speed on our product line. They would know all the main kits pretty well but Trailblazer stuff is a little more of a niche product. What is it you are looking for? If you are interested in something specific I can make sure they have it in stock for you, plus I would like to tell my sales manager that you would be calling on them.

Like you go to the counter guy in the 4WD store and whisper "trailblazer" and he goes through a bead curtain into the back room and comes out with something wrapped in anonymous brown paper wrapping that you have to pay cash for, and then directs you out the back door so his regular customers don't know he's also pandering to perverts with these "specialty" kits.

I remember my first trips to the local 4WD stores (I hit them all) to ask about lifting my pristine, shiny Envoy. Got a lot of funny stares, head-shaking, and questions like "Why?"
