General Grabber AT2 255 65 17 on stock LT 4wd

Need new shoes? This is the place to discuss.

by cerealbyter » Mon Oct 26, 2015 11:52 pm

Hello all! I just ordered a set of General Grabber AT2 in 255 65 17 for my currently stock 2008 LT 4wd TB. I have this rough country kit sitting in my room and 1.5 inch spacers from eBay (BORA brand) on the way as well but the tires are here Friday and are much needed and the spacers don't come until 10-15 days from now. I'm going to post pics once they are on so people can use the pics as a reference for a stock TB prior to any enhancement. I'll worry about bigger tires later. I hope this can help someone in the same situation I'm in, in the future. I'll post pics of her now and then after the tires are on.

Here's a pic of Goodyear Wrangler 255 60 17 on a stock Bravada with blown airshocks. I don't think you'll need the spacers yet.

Your Bravada looks sharp. When I bought this TB a couple of months ago, it came with 4 different tire brands that were all pretty worn, just saved up enough to get some new ones. I bought the leveling kit before buying the truck, lol and I'm getting the spacers so when I'm ready for new tires at tax time I'll be good to go. What type of basket do you have on top?

Mixed and matched tires on there now.

The kit I bought still sitting in my room. My buddy who has a shop has been stingy with the garage space. lol

Ah, I understand, what tires are you looking at come tax time? Oh, and please tell me that they were all the same size right? It boggles the mind that folks would put four different brand tires on a 4x4. I guess some people just want to watch the world burn.

That's an old pic of the Bravada before the correct coil springs were installed and before lift.

Oh, and home made, which reminds me that I need to do a build thread.

I'm rambling, what are you going to do with the tires you just got?

Yeah, they were all the same size but I don't get it either, I think people try to be cheap and think it's a good idea. I can't stand it. I always think people are judging me when I'm driving my TB because of the tires, lol.

I figure according to some of the charts I've seen I can go a little wider and taller on the next set of tires after the lift and spacers are on. I may just stick with the General Grabber AT2 in a bigger size. I like the way the tires look but I'll know for sure once I try these out.

The ones I'm getting put on on Friday, I'll probably keep them on the stock rims and get a new set of wheels/tires once the lift and spacers are on. I do that with all the vehicles in case I want to sell/trade them in. Dealerships don't give you anything for upgraded tires so I'll slap the stock rims back on and sell the other set on craigslist or something if it comes to that. I'm going to be keeping the TB for a while as something I can work on. My last project vehicle I kept for 12 years.

How do you like the Grabber AT2's on your Bravada?

Yeah, been there, when I bought mine, the air ride in the back was screwed, so it drove around looking like that for a while, keep in mind, my driveway is sloped, so when I backed in, it looked leveled, lol!

That's a very smart plan, I never would have thought to keep the stockers for resale.

They're Goodyear Wranglers, I just posted since they are so close in size and I'm not running spacers. They're OK, they've been decent in mud, and they balance decently easy. They've worn quite a bit in two year's time but the wife was using it as a daily during that time. They're the Wranglers with the kevlar in them (marketing gimmick) but the price was right. Dad signed up to win a set of tires in a raffle a couple years back. We thought the set they had there was display, but no, it was the set of tires. Dad ended up winning them but didn't want to put them on his avalanche. He asked if I wanted them, so I took 'em. My only complaint is that the sidewalk lettering has rubbed off entirely too easily. Neither the wife, nor I, rub curbs so it's all happened from wheeling in the mud and trails. I wouldn't buy a set if given the choice.

I have Cooper AT3s on my company truck (2wd), they have been AWESOME in the mud. The only thing I didn't like about them was the way they walked at highway speeds when new. Soon, I'll be getting a set of Cooper STT pros in 265 70 17. I've heard great things about them.

Haha!! the good ol "driveway leveling trick"!!

I thought about some Wranglers but I can't justify spending money on tires that I won't be using in 5 months. Doesn't the Kevlar mean your tires are bulletproof? That's some super secret squirrel stuff, right there.

I didn't find any reviews on Cooper tires for the TB so I wasn't sure how they would be. Let me know how the STT's treat you so I can have a reference for tax time.

Will do.

Yeah, they claim the kevlar is for increased puncture resistance, but those of us that have worn kevlar know that it offers NO puncture resistance...

But hey, free is free.

Seems someone here ran them and they were bad for slipping on the rim and getting out of balance.

I've seen those complaints on the tire sites. They aren't horrible, but I am looking forward to replacing them.

Here is my truck sitting on 245/70-R17 General Grabber AT2's. These tires have been awesome so far! Seen some offroad use while hunting and alot of highway driving in heavy rain. Can't even break them loose if i try. Also truck is sitting on a 2" lift in the front with 1.5" in the rear. Nothing but good things to say about these tires
