Ring/Pinion Gear Brands

Hey everyone, although it will still probably be a while, I'm starting to look further into my regear & rear axle swap. I have found 4.56 gear kits from Yukon gear and axle over at summit racing for around $250, and then I've found cheaper options such as a brand name of Motive Gear, and the MUCH cheaper options like the one in this link. http://www.ebay.com/itm/CHEVY-GM-8-6-10-Bolt-Gears-Ring-Pinion-4-56-NEW-/391417549610?_trksid=p2141725.m3641.l6368

I know practically nothing when it comes down to metal strengths and the different strength treatments/quality. The cheapest gearset (in the ebay link above) says "Manufactured with 8620 Heat-Treated Material" and "Premium Quality Gears" all over it. But I don't know what "8620 material" means in this context, and of course its ebay....

When I think of anything driveline/powertrain, I automatically assume the most expensive is the best quality and best option. Is there a massive difference between these gears that I should spend the extra 150+ bucks on? Or would I be just a good off getting a set from Motive gear or possibly even an Ebay seller?

Thoughts and opinions please. Thanks!

I'm not familiar with the Ebay set, but Motive is a good quality brand, I've used several of their gear set's without an issue.

I've used Yukon a number of times. If you search enough online there's shit talk about all the major brands... they've pretty much all had an issue at some point or another. Haven't heard anything negative about the major brands in quite awhile though.

I can't freaking decide on 4.10s or 4.56s.. I really just want to grab the 4.10 front and an open rear from a pull-a-part and pop those in instead of having to deal all the crap that comes with an actual gear swap.

Been reading that too. Definitely want to do whatever I can to make ABS happy... I hate messing with thag crap. Also going up north of the state this weekend and just found an open 4.10 8.6" up there, might come home with it.

Unfortunately not! I haven't made it that far yet. But I definitely plan on it in the future!

Suburb of Chicago.... Willing to drive to meet up if need be, as I'd rather see this perfectly fine axle go to a good home. It's currently 3.42..... There had to be someone with a SWB that could use a better axle?

That's exactly what I'm going to need later for my swap/gear change unless I decide to go the SS route instead, but I'm way down here in central Arkansas...

Haven't decided yet - probably comes down to how much someone will charge me vs how much I want to learn how to do it
