Regearing?

G80, GU6, GT4, GT5, WTF? This section is for gearing and driveline stuff.

Wouldn't a tune-up include anything that improves how the engine runs?

You could also do fuel injector cleaning if you want to do a toon up too

I'm just arguing semantics here. I just dislike that term, and the fact that it no longer strictly applies to modern vehicles, despite still being used.

Dang Matt, that's some good mileage! I think my tent kills me too. So many variables working against me!

You're looking at it all wrong! You should say you get infinite mileage right now, because you're not using any fuel while hurtling through space.

I'm thinking about switching to an 8.6 axle with 3.73 gears and buying a full front differential with 3.73 in it. I have 3.42 now. The only reason I'm thinking about 3.73 is because putting in 4.10 seems very time consuming and pretty expensive, I feel the 3.73 will be perfect and take less work while letting me run 31.5" tires without having to worry about overheating on highway get decent gas mileage (I do about 50/50 highway and city driving). Then down the road I can always switch the gears to 4.10. Does this seem logical or will someone convince me to go with 4.10 instead?

Dont //// around and do it twice.

Go with 4.10 the first time. It is not more expensive or work really if you keep an eye out. Definitely cheaper to do it the first time.

Agreed, I've never met anyone who wishes they had less gear lol. I would just do 4.56's myself, that's why I have some waiting to go in.

If it's an issue of you don't want to setup gears just find a 4.10 front and rear diff, don't half ass it and swap axles and only do a 3.73 you will regret it.
If you ain't worried about swapping gears, I'm with Jr, toss in some 4.56s. It's a step up from 4.10s that came stock (with a stock sized 29.5" tire) and it'll keep it peppy even with the 31.5" tires... hell, you should probably really do at least a 32, or a 33 if you don't mind trimming. Although there's an aversion to it, the 4.56 gears really aren't that extreme at all with bigger tires.

In that case, I never want to do a tune-up again. It is so much easier to loosen one bolt with a distributor wrench and bump the HEI one way or the other than hooking up the dwell meter and holding that stupid little door open with one hand while snaking that flexible Allen wrench in there to set the dwell...

I got really good at it though. I even carried around a spare set of points for my weekly points change on the side of the road.

I doubt you'd even notice a difference between a 3.42 and 3.73

What does a tune up have to do with gears?

I wish I had 4.56s or lower honestly.
