Took the TBlaze in to the dealer on the cusp of it's available fuel pump sender TSB. They did the usual and threatened a diagnostic fee, if the sender wasn't the culprit, which is excessive, but understandable. The diagnostic was done and said that it was at fault, and tried to up sale me a fuel pump and a fuel system treatment for $800 since they wouldn't be charging labor on the pump as they had to have it out anyway. I told them no, just replace the sender. They called back again and stated they now refused to remove the fuel pump due to severe rust and wanted me to authorize them to replace it for $580, of the aforementioned $800. At this point, I was under the whole stealership mentality, frustrated, and told them to just put it back together and give me the sender.
At this point I would do it myself when I purchased a fuel pump for half the price. The only reason I hadn't done it already was because I was under the assumption that the sender was integrated as part of the pump and could not be replaced separately, so why not let GM fix the whole thing per their letter? Wrong, turns out, but that was okay, part of it.
They called back again, and said that they would not give me the recall part, but would sell it to me for $130. At this point I was done, told them to forget it all and to put the tank back in, I'd deal with it when I could afford the fuel pump. The whole time, they kept trying to sell me on doing it anyway because of safety concerns.
One more call an hour later and turns out the warranty guy had called GM directly and got it authorized to cover new lines, pump and sender, along with labor, all under the claim. I was astonished, to say the least and could not believe it.
So, all that being said, I want to give a huge kudos to GM and my local dealer for doing something above and beyond that didn't actually require money on my part. That is a definition of good customer service, which is shocking to see in the Dealership world these days. The fight I had to go through to get to that point could've been reduced, but I'm still impressed.
I picked it up yesterday afternoon, runs perfect and I can now relax knowing that's an extra $300 I don't have to spend and a tank I don't have to drop.
