Offroad Trailblazers and Envoys

To add limited slip additive or not ??

G80, GU6, GT4, GT5, WTF? This section is for gearing and driveline stuff.

Bought some 75w-90 rear diff oil for my G86. It says it has the additive in it. I have been reading on the SS boards they put additive in with the gear oil. Should I double dip and add additive in with the oil even though it says it has it already??

Double dip for sure. I know some guys use Royal Purples version but we had a failure after servicing which we all know could be just the nature of the beast. But We always added even when containers stated Friction Modifier Included. After That. 8 bucks or 250+? Just my opinion.

Could run Dexron LS 75-90, that certainly doesn't need any additive

The SS limited slip is different than our G80 locker. I use Mobil 1 that has the LS additive in it already, and it can't cause harm. But paying money to add more when the utility isn't there for the G80? No purpose.

I have the Saab 8.6 with the G86 in my TB.
I just used the Mobile1 with the LS additive and it sounds fine, nothing out of the ordinary.
I might have only 100 miles or so on it though.

So many members doing so many projects....declining number of brain cells to process them.....

If you're putting in the SS axle, you should also be changing out the LS to a locker while you're in there. At least I would be. :safari:

The Dexron LS is the factory fill for the SS axle, or just add extra friction modifier. Personally, I'm not a fan of additives and tend to stick with factory fill on special applications like that
