I think they just put it in that STUPID place to keep the noise down and not scare the driver. You should be able to relocate it into the engine compartment, I would think.
Or just remove it, and deal with the code if you need to pass emissions. If you drive off in the first 30-40 seconds after starting the engine, and don't we mostly all do that, the pump does nothing to reduce emissions anyway.
So. . . do I get the Roadie seal of approval for the oil pan skid plate
I'm just gonna make a simple plate with a little kick up in the front. Probably 1/8 inch. Just wanna' protect it from smaller stuff like mud, brush, small rocks and ice/snow. I'm sure that is pricey to replace.

Yes Philberto, You are correct. Follow the hoses up and you will find (at least with my year TB) it goes up on the drivers side, then crosses above the engine by the firewall then over to the fresh air inlet after the air filter.
