Anyone know how to start a build thread? In the Mall Rated forum there is no New Topic button at the top to start a new thread.

it looks like one of those things you need 10 posts to do.

You won't get in trouble for posting anything from other forums on this site.

My wife has said she's wanted a classic car someday. I could see driving one of these pro-touring puppies, they are pretty sweet.

I've always just wanted a cobra kit car though.

Yeah the old 9 bolt doesn't have a chance.

After drag racing and street driving my chevelle for many years, the older I got the more unbearable to drive it became. I love drag racing but I also like to cruise. So the nitrous'd 468, Turbo 400 with a 4200 stall, slicks and skinnys, crappy brakes and 4.56 gears had to go. Right when I made that decision many years ago, I participated in my first autocross event. I have been hooked ever since. The pro touring bug has caught on and isn't going away. All of my good friends have cars that we are converting from drag cars to pro touring cars also. There is a 71 split bumper Camaro with a LS6/T56, a 65 Chevy II with late model GTO front and rear suspension with a 5.3 and twin turbos/T56, a 65 mustang currently with a 289/toploader but it will have an LS1/T56 soon and a 78 2wd Jimmy with a 355/Th350 for the time being. Drawing up a suspension for the Jimmy now. I have to get some more measurements for suspension geometry before we start on it.

Sadly, I don't have the budget money for a 12 bolt or 9" right now, so I'm hoping it holds together. It won't get abused for a while, but we'll see. Could be worse, could have a 10 bolt in it, lol.

LS swap the world! Very good combos there. Like you, I like my street cruising and don't have a whole lot of interest in straight lines. Keep us in the loop on the motor, be curious to see what you end up with. :thumleft:

Well if its ok..... Pro-touring.com and Lateral-g.net are the two main pro touring sites.

I have had mine a very long time and hope to finish it someday. Luckily my wife likes cars.

Well if you don't put any sticky tires (200 treadwear) on it then the rear should live a little while. Third and fourth gen Camaro's are tricky to slam a rear into due to the torque arm but they do handle well when set up right.

Unfortunately it will be a while on the motor. Im not going to build it until the car is getting close to being finished. Momma has kept the purse strings tight lately so it will be a little while before the car is done. I've had the car almost 20 years so I'm not in a hurry. Lol.

Here is a little LS Porn

Mmmm... tasty!

The torque arm rear is a odd to deal with, but if memory servers, Strange makes a swap rear for TQ arm cars. I'm running NT05 (200s), so I just have to be gentle on any launching I might do, but at this point, it's just a time bomb. lol

Yeah Strange makes a bolt in 12 bolt that is compatible with a stock or aftermarket (stock style) torque arm. A lot of other companies (Moser, Quiktime) make "bolt in" rears for third gens but you have to use their own proprietary torque arm which usually use heim ends that are more suited for drag racing other than cruising or autocross.
