Gears and driveshaft for solid axle swap

G80, GU6, GT4, GT5, WTF? This section is for gearing and driveline stuff.

Truck keeps breaking so i picked up a set of axles and some 40x15.5x22 mud grapplers. The rear axle has a 4.10 gear ratio and i know thats nothing for 40's and im gonna need much more. What gear ratio would be good? Im mainly street driving no offroad, im going 2wd because its a budget build and not having to buy a transfercase, upper drive shaft and matching gears will save me alot. Also what driveshaft should i use? i see on the forums they just say custom, how much or any more details? Im not sure if the wheel size will have an effect of the gear ratio but im puting 22x14 moto metal 962 + 2.5 inch wheel spacers.

You're gonna do an SAS on 40s and not go offroading?

I personally wouldn't waste that kind of time or money on a 2wd. But good luck, I wait to your finished product bro.

Concerning the driveshaft, you get it sitting on all four and then measure it, what you measure from and to depends on the style of driveshaft joint your using. There's plenty of guides online.

It's a relatively small issue in the scheme of a build. This is the one I referenced

Don't worry Anthony, it's no biggie!

A show truck on 40's? That's 2wd? Not sure I understand that, but ok.
Which rear axle is it? I would suggest something in the 5.13 to 5.38 gear.

Just a side note, this is an offroad forum. You might have more luck in a forum for show trucks. I can't speak for everyone, but I have very little use for a show truck that isn't fully functional.

Hell if its a show truck and if its not going to see much road use 4.56 would work. Steve did 4.56 on 40s and had no issue iirc. No need for 5.13s or 5.38 if its a show truck.

For a show truck...just use the 4.10 since 4.56/5.13/6.17 will do basically nothing and add expense.

Oh no it's gonna be my daily driver and it's gonna go highway, by show truck I just mean it's not gonna see mud. I'm not sure if the higher gear ratio means more power in this situation

The higher the number the lower the gear in any situation. You will likely want something like 5.38 for a 2wd DD or maybe lower even. Since we do not know what axles, we can not really help you find out what is available for the parts you have.
