Front Drive Shaft (TC to Front Diff) Seal Leak

G80, GU6, GT4, GT5, WTF? This section is for gearing and driveline stuff.

by arl120384 » Wed Jan 23, 2013 1:33 pm

I was underneath my TB and noticed there is a small leak at the seal where the forward drive shaft from the TC meets the front diff. I could only find a vague thread on this, with no how to's or part numbers. Any idea of the name or number of the part, and how to remove the driveshaft?

Thanks

Think that wa probably my thread that you read. I just top it off until the leak gets too bad. I hear its a bitch of a job, so I'm pushing it off as long as I can.

Pinion seal.

4 11mm bolts (ujoint to driveshaft yoke)
Pop driveshaft out of yoke
1 32mm nut (pinion nut, needs a breaker bar or impact, wheels need to be on ground or have assistant hold brakes)
Remove pinion yoke (may come easily, may need to get creative)
Pop old seal out with hammer/screwdriver and/or seal puller (hard to get at)
Install new seal (tap in with big socket)
Reinstall pinion nut, torque to 60 ft/lbs
Reinstall driveshaft

Mine leaks too. I have a new seal but I've been lazy.

Thanks fish, any idea on a part#. Maybe a summer project. I don't like leaks!

Oh, so it's not dealer only. Cool. Thanks!

Yeah, I received that seal by mistake when I needed the side cv output seal. That one was dealer specific, didnt know that until I ripped out the old one... Now I double check all my parts before I remove them, lesson learned.
