4Crawlin Build Thread

G80, GU6, GT4, GT5, WTF? This section is for gearing and driveline stuff.

If I keep it, I'm going for broke with a set of 5.38 gears.

There may be some links, more tube, bigger tires, etc, in the future. Unless I build a buggy...

As far as trail damage, I have a smashed door, that's really about it.

If? IF!?! Blasphemy!!! After all that work, how can there possibly be an 'if' to this?

Now you've made me cry. Hope you're happy. :poke:

Nice to see a recent update that the rig is still running. I've been reading your build lately and thinking I will soon need to build a more family friendly wheeler instead of the my 92 rcsb. I'd like to swap the 78 D60 and 10.25 rear stearling with 5.38 gears, 38.5x15 boggers, np 241 tcase, 52" front and 63" rear spring under a more roomier rig. Since the GF's daily is a 05 trailblazer itd be great to keep the parts the same.

In your first post you showed a Saginaw GM steering gear box, was there just no way to mount on the inside of the frame rail? I've got a few laying around and one set up for hydro assist, be nice to reuse.
How about brakes. Are you still running the factory master cylinder pushing the 1 ton brakes?
Do you think there would be any room for 63" rear springs in the rear?
Without the doubler tcase but with 5.38 gears how do you think the 4.2 would handle the 38" boggers?
If you were to do it again would you have picked a different starting point then the trailblazer, like a S10 blazer or similar? Or anything you would have done differently?

I just read through the entire build and may have missed the section where you converted the VSS to the NP231/241...

I just installed a 241 single case into my TB and im not real sure how to go about the wiring for the VSS.. the stock Tcase has 2 plugs on the output housing and the 241 only has one... help.

Thanks

So last year wheeling in moab I blew the engine. Knock knock, smoke, seize! It's sat till now. I have an 04 V8 donor sitting and waiting. Just started pulling the bad engine today. Moab in a month? I hope I can finish the swap in time.

Hell yea Steve is back!
A month for an engine swap? Didn't you have the SAS done within a month? I've got faith in you.

Yes definately a rear sump. I'm sure my 4.2 died because of oil starvation.
