Is it correct that the passengers seat has a detector that can determine if someone is sitting on the seat?
Bill (theRoadie) did you have taken pictures from the backside of the dashboard when you have removed the dashboard? If so could you please post some?
The idea is to find a way to disable the passenger airbag when the laptop is mounted in front of the airbag. If the passenger side has a detector for the seat then it is easy to not take place on the passenger side

Maybe it is possible to completely remove the passenger airbag and use the space like in this picture:

The other idea is to remove the passenger airbag. Removing the passenger airbag is street legal in germany, but there are some restrictions. Disabling the passenger side airbag is not street legal, only for rally, offroad and so on.
Don´t wont that the notebook in front of the passenger airbag will kick directly into the face of the passenger (in case of a accident).
My other question is, when removing the fuse for both airbags did the system point out a failure after installing the fuse again? I have read on the owners manual that the airbags are intact and can expand even the battery was disabled - that could happen in a time of 10 seconds after disabling the battery. Anyone has heard of that?
Nice build by the way:
