Pokemon GO Players Show Little Interest in Max Raids Due to

Many Pokemon GO players appear hesitant to engage with Max Raids, the new feature allowing players to capture Dynamax and Gigantamax Pokemon in the mobile game. Despite the allure of capturing these oversized Pokemon, a significant portion of the player base feels that the rewards don’t justify the effort required.

Introduced in Pokemon GO in September 2024, Max Raids are mobile adaptations of the Max Raids from Pokemon Sword and Shield. In these events, groups of 10 to 40 players can join forces to battle and capture Dynamax Pokemon, with currently available species including all Kanto and Galar starters and several Gigantamax forms. However, even with full parties, players often leave Max Raids without capturing a Dynamax Pokemon, leading to frustration.

One factor discouraging players is that Max Raids don’t scale to the size of the party, leaving smaller groups at a disadvantage. Additionally, players find it challenging to level up Dynamax and Gigantamax Pokemon due to limited access to species-specific candy, which is essential for their development but is scarce due to the limited availability of these Pokemon in the game.

Moreover, Dynamax and Gigantamax Pokemon can only battle each other in Max Battles, restricting their utility within the broader game. Though they can attract other Dynamax and Gigantamax Pokemon at certain Power Spots on the map, some players feel this feature doesn’t offset the limits on their general usage.

Acknowledging players’ concerns, Niantic has made some adjustments to the Max Raid experience. From October 31 through November 4, players will have the chance to battle Gigantamax Gengar in an event designed to make this Max Raid encounter easier. Niantic is also offering a reward of 25,000 Stardust per successful battle with Gigantamax Gengar, adding an extra incentive for players to participate in the Halloween-themed raid event.
