Hey Guys i was thinking of planning a 3-7 day trip starting in Connecticut, going into Massachusetts, then New Hampshire to Vermont, Then New York Back To Connecicut. i think this would be a nice trip to plan as i would like to do it at maybe the end of august when the heat starts to die down a little and most of the summer people are gone. i will be honest and say i know nothing about planning the trip and finding the LEGAL trails so i would love any and all advice as well as people in the area that would like to tag along or meet up on the way.

If you're hitting national forests, they will normally have MVUMs posted online.

State forests will generally have trail maps posted too, just gotta search it out.

Not 100% on CT, but from what I've heard there really isn't anything legal.

MA has a good amount of trails in the Western part of the state, but most is private land that you must be in a 4x4 club (NEA) to access. There are a few public trails out there as well, but many of them are pretty extreme, as far as rock crawing, so wouldn't venture out there with a bigger rig/ winches...

Southern NH is the same way for the trails I know.

Don't know anything about VT.

And I know of 2 offorad parks, 1 in ME, and the other kinda Upstate NY. Other than that, I don't know anything about either state..

Thats all just off the top of my head.

thats cool thats kinda what im looking for to try and organize something that people what to do. im not gunna do any trails in CT cuz i know there isnt many but that would be my starting point for anyone else in CT who would want to tag along and the offroading would start in mass and work my way around the states.

i would like to do maybe a weekend trail maybe mid end of june just to get my self familiarized with off roading so when that multi state trip comes up im a little more experienced.

As far as CT i was talking with the local police about CT open space, all open space is off limits to motor vehicles. So anything with a motor is not allowed in the woods unless it is privately owned. If its privately owned then of course you can't go in it without permission. I go to a trail in Brewster, NY...it's state property but i don't know NY's state laws about open space. It says land for sale so as far as i am concerned, I'm just surveying the land for potential purchase. I can bring you there this weekend if you want, I'll be going Sunday either there or another spot near some abandoned R.R. tracks.

Be careful with stuff like that. Tresspassing or similar violations are not fun (and not cheap).

Yea i try to make sure to keep it quick and i surveyed the surrounding area for any signs. None. Also if I ever did get caught i would most likely get out of it...the first time at least, I have police connections locally so i have the "get out of jail no matter what" card. regardless i have been asking around with some of my Jeep buddies and there is a legal trail right nearby mine. So between that and my other trail a.k.a. A dirt road that just washes away and turns into a mudpit after rain i should be ok to stop going to the spot in the woods...

Doesnt matter what 'card' you have, if its been an on-going issue and people have been known to be at the spot and abuse it, your not going to win.

Oh its not an ongoing issue, its just a spot that like 2 or 3 people drive along. I have never heard of anything happening there. But no worries, I'm pretty sure it isn't illegal and i won't really be using it anymore.

I am in MA I have a spot in VT ST Johnsbury area that we can stay at or camp. Depending if the house is rented out that weekend but on 350 acres there is somewhere we could go.
