COMPLETED: Bad First trip out!

I went out in my "new" stock TB with a good buddy (riding a 4-Wheeler) and his "Buddy" (4X4 F150 "Recovery Vehicle"). "Buddy" got spooked by police and hauled A$$ leaving a slippery climb on the other side of a creek. After several attempts to climb I decided to line up and get a better head start.... The result is self explainatory... I have learned at least 101 ways to have made this turn out better!

I guess I should have known that there was an immediate two foot cliff of gravel behind me? Did you even watch the video link? Even if it were my own fault you must also be the type of off roader to leave a man behind!

Wouldn't have brought a newbie with a stock truck out there. What does the 2' edge have to do with how you are buried? I think you need to re approach how you come onto a forum of people you don't even know and you haven't even introduced yourself to. I am sure you have been lurking on the forum and know how we are around here.

By reversing to get a running start. Once the back tires reached the unknown gravel ledge the truck slid straight back. Not a newbie but not a career off roadet either.

Regardless of anything else, you're REALLY going to want to change your rear diff fluid before you put very many miles on it... Warm diff, then submerged in water above the vent = cold diff that's full of water...

Another thing you're going to want to do is fill out your Location in your profile... so others around you are warned. Not trying to be a dick, but I agree with Phil's first reply. You're driving through drains and such off the sides of roads and under powerlines... not much actual trail riding, at least not "Tread Lightly".

Why would the appearance of authorities "spook" anybody who has permission to ride on a legal trail?

Oh, it may not be a legal trail?

Most of us would not even be OUT there, let alone be in a position to flee. So what really happened, the police came after you took the video? How did you ever get out? One critical piece of recovery gear is to have a plan that doesn't involve making it up as you go along.

First it was a creek on private property. The owner was ready for everyone to leave so they "raced" out for some reason. The Carmax plate stayed for no reason at all but laughs until my new plates come in. In Texas you must have a front plate. No streets were near and the power poles are probably 200' tall!

We don't wheel anywhere where one would get "spooked" by police. Even if we did wheel somewhere where we should not be and police showed up, we wouldn't have "hauled A$$" to get away. We have more respect for law enforcement.

To me it looks more like you slid into the creek and THAN created 4 deep holes in the process of sinking the truck to it's axles in the pea gravel because of your "haul ass" solve your problems with the gas pedal mentality. Where instead, a little self control and a passive recovery method may have provided better results.

I never saw police and met my retrieval guy that same day. All I was told is we are leaving and I got left. That was my first trip to that place and the buddy that stayed behind for me stayed until his 5 minute warning was up. I'm not an intentional trespasser nor do I have disrespect for the law. My rear tires never broke the surface of the gravel.

Can I help my reputation by explaining anything else?

I'm still confused by the entire thing.

You were on someone's property - did you have permission? Why were they kicking you out?

Why did your buddy get spooked by police, even though you were legally on the property?

Why do you keep talking about leaving a man behind. Would your buddies have left you there? They sound like people you should stay away from.
