Absolutely essential trail guides in my collection are by Peter Massey and Jeanne Wilson, Charles A. Wells, Tony Huegel, and Roger Mitchell.

My #1 resorce is the local's of where ever I am traveling. I do carry around maps, as well as my laptop for GPS, but I have found that if you talk to the local's in whatever area you are in, 95% of the time you will get more than enough info about the area and what to watch out for.

Agreed. They warn you away from their wimmin, and show you their (remaining) teeth.... if you talk to the local's in whatever area you are in, 95% of the time you will get more than enough info about the area and what to watch out for.
