Offroad Trailblazers and Envoys

Trans shifter mod?

Trailblazer and Envoy related, but not off-road related...

Does anyone know if you can modify the shifter to go from forward to reverse without pushing the button?

I want to retain the lockout of park, but want to be able to slap the shifter from drive to reverse.

On the old shifters, it was just removing a gate. I saw an envoy at the wrecking yard last weekend, but didnt think of this till now. Otherwise i could have torn into that one.

After some searching, I found pictures of a shifter on ebay. They show the gates. It appears that a plastic gate has to be ground out (on both sides of the lever) for this function to happen.

Currently it is a sloped gate. Which is why you can push the button to get out of park and into reverse, but then no button press is required to go from reverse to neutral, then drive. It appears that drive and neutral have no gate between them. If this is the case, I only have to remove the gate between neutral and reverse.

Ill check when I get home, but does anyone know if you can shift freely between drive and nuetral without any press of the button?

Thank you!

Looks like it will just be the one gate to remove to go from drive to reverse...

When climbing a steep wall, it may be required to quickly slap it into reverse to prevent going over backwards.

In a rush, pushing the button to get to reverse would also allow you to go too far, and hit park. By removing the gate, you can literally slap it into reverse without ever lifting off the throttle, or thinking about it.

Thats easily overcome with training (if you meant as a driver), and seat belts (for the literal "kick"). Its possible for someone to push the button and hit park on the freeway was well...

Most people put a rig in drive and go, and would never notice the change.

yeah, I meant literal kick, when we are beating around in the woods they might switch from riding in the back to riding up front with mom but our rigs are serving different purposes.
