I'm not sure what a crimp cap is, but butt connectors work fine when crimped right, especially the shrink wrap kind. Better yet, run your wire the entire way to its destinations, don't put a junction in the middle of nowhere between the two.

The wires on the switches was pre cut and I already had wire run through the firewall to the other switches, so I just cut and spliced. It's kind of the best junction place too since its not hard to get to that area and takes two seconds.. I also don't like using butt connectors either haha... And I can't fit my crimping tool in that small space and I have trust issues with crimping connectors. The connectors I buy will be perfect for connecting the wires.

I might look into using some brackets that wrap around to the bottom of the frame and up the side like an L shape and run a bead all the way around those brackets then weld the hoop to the brackets. Giving it more surface area to grab should make it stronger. Just my two cents.

Over the weekend, I installed new Dorman lower control arms, Ac Delco upper balljoint's, Moog 8114 springs, and cut the sway bar off the front.

Really the side of the frame where the shock hoop mounts should have a reinforcement plate on it through there and if you wanna be extra paranoid, slap a taco gusset between the tube and the side of the frame up to the top so that it can't bend in because it'd be compressing the taco gusset.

It looks like it flexed the thin metal of the frame until it work hardened and cracked, ultimately breaking off around the perimeter of the weld.

I believe he just slapped a square plate over the hole and then welded it back on.

Hell, I may have typed this all up before LOL I know I at least thought about typing it, meh, if nothing else, here it is again. Hahaha

I drove mine from home to the shop for class, gonna be starting a roof rack basket project here soon. Just took the measurements and researching square tubing, then deciding which process to use, TIG would make it pretty, but MIG will get it done faster...

This was a busy weekend! Got my Bendpak 2-post lift installed, put on my new Radflo's, removed the rear sway bar, removed the spare tire heat shields, replaced the rear diff cover, and installed the roof rack I got from HillbillyBonez!! All ready for Moab in a few weeks!!

Thats what I did to fix it. It was a combination of a bad weld and no hoop support that led to failure!

Part of learning on your own is making mistakes...don't look at it as a failure...look at it as you found out how NOT to do a shock hoop... :coffee:

Drove mine to a visitation then to the Eagles then to a Buddy's house then home. Hit triple digits in 35s more than once. Left a lil rubber n smoke but still.looked like a bitch next to the Judge that runs sub 13 on lil radials.

//// yeah. Who does not want to beat on a truck they spent years building to help celebrate a fallen loved one. $100k ram air judge and a lil 06 TB had close to equal fun. We put some smiles on some sad faces.
