What did you do to your GMT today?

Trailblazer and Envoy related, but not off-road related...

I'm aware. I'm glad to see you continue to show your colors on the forum. Throwing around words like ignorant. Getting all excited over stupid shit. Overall insulting people without reason. I can manage without those things in my life.

There is some truth to what Chris said. If I've got some walls, I really only need to run one strap, and that's often just a bungie. If there are no rails, every load needs at least two straps.

I can understand that, but it is not how well you tied it down. Either way is well tied. You are just using the side as a control point rather than a secondary strap.

that's exactly what I meant.
I use "milk" crates to carry stuff on the rack I built. Since my walls are tall enough I can put the crates at the rear of my rack and run a strap through the crates and one strap can hold 2-3 crates in place.
If my walls weren't tall enough or if I had no walls, I would need to be more diligent in securing the load.

Yea they are a custom shop and lift suv's and trucks all the time. Had to also have replace a outer TRE cause it would not pass inspection. I bought the part but did not think they charge me $80 to install. Should have done myself, lesson learned. :wallbash:

I could easily secure 2 or 3 milk crates with one strap on my flat rack. They would be secured well actually. Sides are not needed. Are you letting the crates slide into the walls or how do you think the walls secure that load? If they are along the rear of the rack, what keeps them from sliding forward when braking?

Sounds like you don't need to be more dilligent and you are securing your load well, but sides are not why.

KingBird wrote:OK guys, I'm still new to some of this, I'll be adding some expanded metal to the bottom and sides, which I'm thinking need only be as tall as my lights. Do those bungee "spider straps" work as advertised or are they more trouble than they're worth?

I find them more trouble than worth. Regular bungees and ratchets are far easier. Occasionally with a wierd or multiple piece load i will utilize a spider over top of everything I have alredy secured, but its more for added peace of mind than actually holding anything.

More trouble than worth, X2. They are really only good for tying down light loose stuff.
