Offroad Trailblazers and Envoys

What did you do to your GMT today?

Trailblazer and Envoy related, but not off-road related...

Oh haha no. Just the regular Bilsteins, replacement springs (factory rate), and one of marks original kits I got from someone on here or TV I can't remember. I don't have the money or needs for the adjustables or higher spring rates.

Just an FYI...you dont have coilovers. Just a typical strut assembly.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coilover

actually a typical strut assembly would just be the strut itself

when you put the whole system together including spring is when it becomes a coil over system. its just not adjustable

kinda liked airforce one isnt really airforce one until the president is onboard :finger:

I think this statement in the link you reference clears it up
".....The shock absorber and spring are assembled as a unit prior to installation, and are replaced as a unit when the shock absorber has leaked. This provides for optimal damping without torsional loads....."

we can replace ours independently and swap in different coils or struts as we like. That tells me that we have a coil and a strut because I don't think we can swap in a Bilstien HD strut in a Radflo coilover nor would we want to.

I think coilovers are also usually rebuildable where our OEM design has disposable struts.

Yeah it also starts off by saying

"A coilover is an automobile suspension device. "Coilover" is short for "coil spring over strut". It consists of a shock absorber with a coil spring encircling it."

And also continues to say

"Some coilovers allow adjustment of ride height and stiffness, using a simple threaded spring perch similar to a nut. More advanced adjustable coilover systems will use a threaded shock body, coupled with an adjustable lower mount for ride height adjustment, while an adjustment knob is used to adjust damping, commonly referred to as "stiffness.""

So technically although they are not adjustable it is a Coilover Setup

Six in one, half dozen in the other.

You can take apart a Radflo and replace the springs if you want. You can remove the stock assembly as a unit.

That Wikipedia article sounds like it was written by a highschooler.

I wish I bought Radflos to start with. Ugh.
Once lifted 03 Trailblazer on 35's, gave it up to travel the USA with my family.

And it seems most of the build threads on here talk about people taking their setup apart and changing out springs as well. Like you said "six in one, half dozen in the other". Lay the 2 systems side by side and see what you got. A strut mount, spring, strut, and perch. The 2 have different mounts and one has an adjustable spring perch but they both boil down to the same basic principle a coil mounted over a strut.

On another note, apart from this thread being hijacked for a short while, it may look like its becoming a heated discussion and I just want to make it clear that this is all in fun. I have nothing but respect for the 3 of you (hardtrailz, fishsticks, and navigator) as well everyone else on the site

The front one...

if so, Yes. Myself and Roadie and several other have as well. I took out about 2 inches at bottom and about 12 inches high, making a nice triangle. Most do not even notice.
