Rear Differential Cover Rusted

After removing the spare tire and the rear bumper from the TB I was shocked to see the rust on the rear differential cover and I'm not talking about surface rust. It was thick and pitted! Scraping it off was like removing a layer of metal. I scrapped and wire bushed as best I could and then gave it a coating of Loctite Rust Neutralizer.

It most definitely will need to be replaced before pin holes start leaking. After much searching all I could find was this on ebay It looks the same just different. The bump out for the ring gear looks larger? What do you think, will it be ok? I have a Purple Cranium half spider on the way so changing to a different cover like a G2 is not an option

I'd say find the p/n off of RockAuto and usually they'll have aftermarket equivilent p/n, too. Or snag one from a salvage yard for cheap.

Rock Auto only list two and their both aluminum and over a C-note. My guys at the salvage yard will not separate a cover from a differential worth selling

When I was trying to convince Purple Cranium to make a half spider for us, they were somewhat interested. What sealed the deal is that I offered to send them a cover so that they could get the bolt pattern from it. I ended up getting a cover from a local GM dealer (parts counter) as I was VERY surprised how reasonable the cost was ... about CAN$28 if I remember correctly. $22.22 from GMPartsDirect.com, but their shipping costs might throw this out of wack.

I would ask a local GM dealer first, it may save you a lot of time and effort.

Well I found out that Dorman has them "who would've of thought". I just need to to get the P/N right because SR contradict whats on Dormans web site. And of course Amazon has them for $20

Cool it is on prime on amazon if you have it. Also was stated in one review that it is bare metal.
