Scrublade Wipers

I recently found some new wipers that I've been trying out called Scrublade wipers.

They have an interesting design that has two blades, each has a leading edge that has scrubbers to get rid of mud, dirt, and bugs, then a trailing edge that squeegees it.



They've been working well for me so far... http://www.sierraexpeditions.com sells them for $18 each (for the 22" versions).

Figured I'd share a cool product that seems to be working well for me so far. I've got them on the fronts, and just got in a new one for the rear.

Nice find. I discovered Bosch ICONs before I saw Reed Timmer slapped them on his Dominator storm chasing Tahoe, and wipers here last three years so it will be a while before I need new ones.

Wonder if that's pronounced Skru-Blade, or Scrub-lade? Sort of like the writing implement store Pen Island, who discovered the hard way what it looked like when concatenated for a .com domain name.

Wow... Those are pretty interesting. Wonder how long they last. I'm on just over a year with my Icons. These may be my next set. Wife's car is due for blades, though.

Very interesting James. How do they work in snow?
With twin surfaces on each wiper arm do they float at higher speeds with half the pressure being applied?

So far they work pretty well in all conditions. The only complaint is that they do allow water to "pool" between the dual blades, which sometimes allows a couple drops to be sucked out and travel up the windshield when at high speed. I've really only noticed that when using the washer fluid though.

I'm also a user of the Icons, though I do notice an annoying habit the passenger side one has of not seating the entire blade on the windshield (the outer edge doesn't tough the glass until the arm is 1/3 of the way up due to the curvature).

They've made it 2 years so far.

These scrublades do look like an interesting concept though. Will have to check them out when replacement time comes.

It is soo nice to now that someone else has the wiper problem that has been bugging the shit out of me. Why is it that no wipers sit totally flat on the passenger side? its soo wieid.

I've got the same issue with my icons. The pass side outer edge doesn't contact the glass until a few inches up. The driver side also has an issue, but at the top. Otherwise they've worked wonderfully.

Same issue here as well.

On another note I just placed my order for a set of these since I was just about to replace mine this week anyway.

In my experience, it takes them a week or so to "break in"... at first mine were a bit streaky. Just a FYI.

It doesn't talk about running them on a dry, clean window to break them in?? The PIAA's I got said to do that so they wear to the window and it puts on some rainslick stuff on too. I've done it with cheap ones and it seems to work well...

Interesting concept and idea. How long do they suggest they be ran. Are we talking a few swipes, five minutes on high, what's a good recommendation?

Mine took a month or so of normal use to really wear properly and begin wiping clean. But you could probably do the same with a good 5 minutes on high. Although you might want to wet the window while it's doing that... it could otherwise be a lot of heat buildup.

So far I really like the scrublade... They seem to not only wipe well, but clean the window well. I especially can appreciate it after driving my wife's car this past weekend... the bugs just got smeared into the glass with her wipers. The scrublade really wipes it clean a lot faster.

I think the other key is good wiper fluid. I've learned to only use rain-x fluid.

I love the rainX fluid as well.
I have a was on a trip one time recently and realized after about an hour in that it was raining and I wasn't using my wipers. It wasn't a heavy rain, just light but the rainX is well worth it.

I also like the rainx kind with de-icer in it for the winter except it seems to leave a little streaking on the side windows. It works great for the frost we get here in the south though.

Yea I followed suite and got a set back in January. Been working great so far. and +1 for Rain-X, its all I'll use.

PIAA said 5 minutes on the lower constant setting.... This was supposed to release the rainX stuff and make the wiper match the window better.. It said to be dry, and very clean.

Good to know. I'll be trying that trick next time I throw on a set of blade.

The big question, did you notice it seemed to make a difference at all?
