Map Basket

So like several others, I've been trying to figure out storage for maps, since both driver and passenger door storage was full of them. So I made a map basket. I used a crab bait cage, took the lid off, and then used cable nail clamps to mount it. I removed the nails and used really small sheet metal screws. I think it looks nice and it works very well as well as being handy to a passenger. Finished results:

Man, I really hope you don't have the side airbags!

Also, from a side impact or rollover or anything like that, I could see the corner of those baskets making a hole in somebody's temple.

I absolutely would NOT drive around with those attached.

I agree with Barton, could hurt someone. Why not mount in the door pocket?

No side airbags. There is none built into the seat, and I've been up into the headliner and none up there, the B pillar is not marked with any airbags either.

I like the idea, just not the location. I use a waterproof map bag stashed under my passenger seat, but what works for one doesn't for all. That's the beauty of making your rig YOUR rig.

OK, so it's likely not going to fly off and hit you. You'll just run into it. It's only half as double-deadly as I was thinking it was.

Yea, I'm trying to figure out more map storage under the driver's seat if possible, under the passengers is going to be for more radio equipment. I wasn't going to do this location until I found this particular basket, it is entirely crushable in fact one map is stronger then the whole basket. I can't do it on the driver side, because that's the blind spot check. With the seat forward the head rest actually prevents even accidentally hitting it. I'm still playing with it. The other place would be back on the sides in behind the rear seats.

I use the pockets on the back of my front seats and how is it you dont have air bags? my 02 has them in the seat?

Side airbags were never standard, but were always an option.

I've taken side hits on the rock sliders that would have loosened the pillar cover off its clips. Your trails might be gentler. I'd worry about a sideways-looking passengers EYES, though.
